All of my helmets are either DOT or ECE 22.05 and I wear them 100% of the time.

When I took the MSF course and got a bike again, the wife asked me to please wear a helmet if I was going to ride. Now, it's second nature, and I feel strange if I don't wear one. I just look at it like smoking: I don't want them to smoke, so I don't. If I saw my kids getting on a bike, I'd feel better if they wore one. Set a good example. Same with the clothing: no shorts, good boots. On hot days, I'll take a chance and go short sleeves, but that's the most risk I take.

I wear one all the time, and kinda glad the state requires it. They protect me from myself sometimes if I have a weak moment....

DOT half helmet in warm weather and 3/4 helmet in winter. Mandatory in VA but I also wear one when it's not mandatory, I just don't feel right without it.

I wouldn't wear on 'old' helmet or one without a 'DOT' sticker that was for real, manufactured into the product. As far as 'lids', I like to wear a Police type half helmet. It's just between cool beany and modular. I have a Fulmer modular flip-face helmet and feel safe with it, pluss the benefit of having a flipped up open face. Beany's will protect, but only marginally, it's just by design. A full face is about as good as it gets, thus the modular. My feelings on not wearing a helmet.....? It's asking for trouble if an event should happen. I also think even states where no helmets are required that the Law (Cops riding by) would think you likely a safer rided and their impression while seeing you would be 'a look then dissmissed as a target' for citations. I just dont feel any kind of safe without a helmet.

Arguments can be made both ways on the helmet laws, but beyond that, a half helmet or none at all has alot of 'wind noise' to contend with, and it is fatigueing to hear the constant wind roar. I'v lost aquaintances with both helmets and no helmets, but I think if your skiding along from 50 or 60 you'll find Mother Earth pretty unforgiving

I bought a dot approved helmet in case we go out of state. Here in Ct..on this side of the state anyway..i would say over half of the riders on the road do not wear one..including me.I know it is a risk..but if i am going to ride i want to ride as free and open as i can.I guess the folks in states with mandatory helmet laws would think we are crazy here..and as restrictive as Conn. is about everything else i am surprised we have managed to keep the right to choose..i guess i should at least try the damned thing on..you folks are making me wonder...
