PGR Protocol 8 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
I am planning on attending my first PGR Flag Line/Funeral Escort here in AZ on Wednesday morning. I have a couple of questions. First, is it OK to show up without a flag for this first one, and see what others are using for their set-ups so that I can get something that fits in by the time for the next flag line? Second, is it OK to ride double on a PGR ride? My wife is interested in attending and here on the Clinic is the best place I could think of to get an opinion from those with experience.

You'll be fine showing up without a flag, sometimes there's extras or they just space the flags out among the participants. You'll also be fine being two up, I've seen many passengers at PGR events. There will be a short briefing prior to departure to let everyone know what's going on and how it's going down. Keep a hanky handy, these things have the potential to be an emotional experience.
Good on you for participating.

Yes to both of your questions. You will be happy you went and will be looking forward to the next event.
In most areas you will be provided with a flag to hold in the flag line, and usually there are several bikes without flags mounted.

I would rather be on my bike thinking about God, than sitting in church thinking about my bike.

I just joined PGR this past weekend. Looking forward to helping out. The only thing that concerns me is that most of the missions are on weekdays, during working hours. I hope I will be able to contribute in some way.

That's been my biggest road-block as well, but I will be to as many as I can !

I went to my first PGR mission without a flag and wound up holding one someone else brought. On the missions I have been on the number of bikes with flags accompanying the herse is limited to a few, but the flag line is not limited and anyone can join in that part. Be prepared for the emotions, and for a potentially long day. I have only been on a few missions, but many are 4 or more hours, depending on the family's desires and the service and graveside procession.
I picked up a 3X5 flag and pole at Wal Mart. It breaks down into 3 sections. Bring tape to put on the joints in the pole so it does not come apart. Remember that the flag on the rear of a motorcycle is on the flags right. My participation to date has only been to stand in the flag line. Dress for the weather, as you can be standing at attention for a long time. The PGR leader for the mission will brief everyone and answer any questions. The family's really seem to appreciate the PGR and it is an amazing site to see all the bikers standing with flags to honor the fallen.

Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: I SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. John F. Kennedy Aug. 1963

My father-in-law flew insertions and dust-offs, Hueys in Viet Nam. My Dad was Navy, stateside for my whole child-hood. I definitely have a soft spot for those who serve.
My gratitude goes out to all of you!
