I have owned several Harley's... mostly Sportsters.... I was riding with a group of Harley's the other day...... of course they do not count a RS as a real motorcycle....when they said something I just reminded them of how their Motor vibrated so much it shook the entire bike.. also mentioned how much $ I had in my Rs... that is when they shut up......

Travel with at least one other R* owner. That way, when you want a parking spot, you both can pick up the Sportsters and move them out of the way...
Real motorcycle my butt...

Went on a 350 mile ride this weekend. My riding buddy's friend went with us and he had a nice new HD. I always ride the rear as my pipes are loud. He kept looking the R* over and when we stopped to eat he said I can hear your bike all the way where I am. Then he said "sure does sound good". His when he started it it made this really LOUD clank when the starter kicked in. He and Bo both like the lope and sound mine has at idle.

I also own a 2009 Ultra Classic. It vibrates at idle but anything above that it is silky smooth. Much different than my Road* which vibrates/buzzes at anything above an idle and increases the faster you go.

That is my experience too..but remember the Ultras have rubber engine mounts.. and the idle vibration is pleasant..
For a rigid mounted motor the R* is relatively smooth
The clank on start up is the compensator..it is normal ...it is not the starter.the compensator is a clutch type mechanism that cushions the torque between the crank and the primary...
And as far as sound...the Harley still has that unique sound that I have never quite been able to duplicate even after several exhausts on the R*..

Road* not a real motorcycle??? Hell, every time I park next to a Soft Tail or Road King, my bike dwarfs them!

Harley may have been around longer, but DEFINATELY not better. Harley's are smaller, cost FAR more, parts cost more and you need to replace far more than on a R*. The ride is not as smooth as Harley's have a "clunkier" tranny and stiffer ride.
A R* for 60% the price of a similar equipped Harley? A no brainer...And,
I'll pocket the extra 14 thousand cash to buy my own bar and shield.

Easy gentlemen!!! This one could QUICKLY turn into a Brand bashing session. We all ride, I don't care what it is. I get admiring looks and comments from guys on all different kids of bikes. I admire a good -looking bike just like the next guy. I got the "wave" from aq guy in a Ford F-150 last night, and he had an HD sticker on his truck. Brand doesn't matter. It's a brotherhood, and we ALL have a responsibility to make it work. Can you imagine the number of bikes, and the level of public awareness if we could get ALL the owners who don't ride often to roll them out and ride???
Just my $.02
