Hyper charger spraying gas 12 Years, 11 Months ago
I was wondering if anyone would know what is going on with the Hypercharger on my 05 Roadie?
Today while I was traveling on the highway (70mph) I noticed a very strong odor of gas coming from the bike.
When I got home I noticed I had gas all over my exhaust pies and gas around the bottom of the Hypercharger.
I purchased the charger about 4 months ago..Is this a common problem?
I'm taking it over to the Yamaha shop tomorrow..Is their anthing I need to tell them?
This should be covered ,right?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave3

I've been thinking about putting a hypercharger on my '05 roadie... Besides spraying gas, does anyone else know about any other con's the hypercharger has? I'm trying to compare various air kits and could use more info before purchasing. Thanks!

Dave,

This is not the Hypercharger. It has to be the carb or some other component in the fuel delivery system.

Were you able to find a place on the carb that seemed to be dripping? Or does the pattern of the gas on the motor seem to point to coming from a specific place?

If you turn the key on and let it sit for a minute, can you smell gas and does it drip?

Dave,

I've got the standard HC on my 2000 Roadie and never had a problem with it spraying gas. If you have a considerable amount of gas around the pipes and HC, then look at possibly the overflow nipple on the carb near the float bowl. The ONLY time I had gas come out was when I started it and it would "pour" out from the carb. The HC ONLY brings filtered air into the carb.

Only "con" I'm aware of are it does stick out a little more than many other air cleaners and the amount of air pulled into the carb is rather less than other air cleaners. ie: BAK But nothing to the point of having a bike that will move forwards and one that will launch forwards.

Thanks Gram /Islandstar

I filled up the tank and rode around town and hit the freeway for a while..I didn't notice anymore fuel smells or fuel stains on the pipes or HC...

I have the bike scheduled for an oil change this week. I will bring it to their attention..

Dave,

Just read the post you put up about this possibly being a mix of gas and oil.

Did you hook up your crank case vent to the hypercharger? That is what Kuryakin recommends, but it will cause this type of problem. If you do, check into installing a crank case breather to vent that material to the ground. It will make a big difference.

Thanks for the kudos on the bikes. And stay tuned, we are about to turn islandstar's bike into a torque MONSTOR
