This is what Tom was talking about. I couldn't find Covell's donuts but here's a stainless donut. They are real pricey.

I used one for a lower radiator tube on a 32 Ford with a Big Block Chev engine. There was no room other than to make a twisting 270 degree turn.

The Bassani rear pipe measures 2.5 on the C dimension. They also make more than a 180 degree turn. It is a very tight area.

TheGrinder made a set. You could PM him.

You could save a lot of time and get the Bassani head pipes. At the end of the day time and parts would run close to the same price. Just a thought.... If you do make your own cant wait to see them!

I think it could be done, Tony (Grinder) did his, ask him how he did it. I think the hardest part would be the rear jug u bend. If you could get that done, the rest wouldn't be anything that any exhaust shop couldn't do. Hell any exhaust shop might could do the rear u bend?

If you decide to take on the whole thing, my advice would be use stainless or aluminized pipe. As far as welding goes, I'm not a welder by trade but I went to welding school and I am certified, one thing they teach you. If the weld ain't pretty, it ain't a good weld!

These are pretty decent priced, if the radius is tight enough in the proper pipe diameter.

Thank Yinz, PM sent...

Now IF I can make this work, i'm thinking the whole deal will be about $150 - $200. But I won't know for sure until I talk to the local muffler shop.

My plan wold be to make it all "bolt on" with the exception of the turn around pipe on the rear jug. That *will* have to be fabricated. I looked at my bike and the ONLY thing that will fit in there is a pipe turned on itself with no more than about 1/2 in between . So thats where the Muffler shop would come in. This is what I'm thinking:

Cut a couple inches out of the center section and weld it back together so that C would be about a half inch. Of course, you would also have to shorten A and B accordingly, but that can be done with a hack saw. Once that piece is completed, it would connect to the HK flange with a clamp, unless the shop will weld it for less. On the other end, since there is so little room behind the jug and transfer case, it would be challenging to make a straight piece of pipe fit through there at the proper angle. So I'm thinking it would be easiest to use some flex pipe for that short section. From there it would all be clamps to connect everything, then wrap it all.

I'm going to drop by the muffler shop tomorrow to see what they say.

Honestly, for someone with no experience in making an exhaust system, it probably wouldn't be worth it. A set of Bassani head pipes and take-off HD mufflers would be a lot easier and probably cheaper too.

I have a question on this.. Couldn't you find a set of, lets say, rienhart replacement mufflers instead of the harley factory with the bassini head pipes? I've seen them on ebay for dirt prices, compared to new, and basically new shape and shine.

That'd be great. Sure would make things a lot easier.

Justin ( Jonesie05) has a Freedom rear header pipe. (ask me how I know ) maybe he could make a tracing for you if the above doesn't work out.
I'd be leery of fabbing a pipes w/ that profile. I think it might be too restrictive. If all else fails, ask either of the Jonses to send you a pic of what the pipe looks like & go from there
