Re:When Did You Know???? 7 Years, 9 Months ago
About 14 months ago --- I went over to Australia to visit my brother who at that time was very ill , talking about various things he had said that he had very little regrets about the things he had done in life and had been able to see and do most of the things he had wanted ,I guess these things were in the back of my mind when we went to visit the AGM of the Ulysses Club which was on in the part of Sydney that he lives in , at the show there were lots of different bikes and in the car park was one for sale - yes you guessed it - a Roadstar -Its over 35 years since I last rode a bike and at that time it was a 50cc model ( yes 50cc )so what was I doing looking at a 1600 cc monster !! well I thought ,yes I really would like a bike again and with the kids now all grown up ,house secure etc ,I also knew that when I got back to Ireland I would forget about the idea so it was now or never , or a case of shoude -woulda - coulda - so made an offer and bought this monster ( Wife - don't ask me ,Sister in law - you're mad - Brother -why not life's too short )left Australia a week later and arranged to have the bike shipped to Ireland - 5 months later it arrived but meanwhile I had taken some refresher lessons ( also knocked down the garden wall and rebuild the garage )took some time to get used to a big bike but I'm in no hurry ( still learning , but then when do we ever stop learning ? )any regrets ??

Are you f****** joking ??

Went back to Australia again this year to visit brother ( in remission ) but no , didn't buy another bike - had already bought one here in Ireland for the wife - thats another story

Re:When Did You Know???? 6 Years, 2 Months ago
Is it ok to bring this back up from a couple years ago, dust it off, and keep it going?
I love this kind of reading. I logged on for a quick minute first thing in the morning while getting ready for work when I first found this thread. I was instantly hooked. Crammed as many as I could before running out the door, and for the next 3 or 4 evenings, read every single post, some even twice.
Mopar, yours topped the list in my book. That was me. That was me standing there with my mouth wide open. I was baited and hooked the same way and I'm still like that today
I can never get enough....of riding, or looking at bikes, or watching bikes go by, or meeting fellow bikers, all of it!
Would love for the current guys to keep it going, and know what I'll be doing for the next 3 or 4 evenings.
Ride safe and blessings to each of you.

WOW, YOU JUST BROUGHT BACK SOME MEMORIES.

MY INTRODUCTION TO MOTORCYCLES HAPPENED WHEN I WAS YOUNG, ABOUT SIX. MY NEIGHBOR HAD A LITTLE HONDA 50 DIRT BIKE. THEY OFFERED TO LET ME RIDE IT IN THEIR BACK YARD AND INSTANTLY I WRECKED IT INTO THE FENCE. NO DAMAGE TO ME AND VERY LITTLE TO THE BIKE BUT THEY WOULDN'T LET ME CLIMB BACK ON. BUT THAT FEELING STAYED WITH ME.

JUMP FORWARD TWO YEARS, IT'S THE SUMMER OF 1987, I AM EIGHT YEARS OLD. I WAS WITH MY DAD AND A COUPLE OF BROTHERS AT A MOUNTAIN MAN RENDEZVOUS IN FORT BRIDGER, WYOMING. IT WAS A NICE MELLOW DAY UP IN THE MOUNTAIN CITY. SUN WAS SHINING, TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 85 TO 90 DEGREES. THE FESTIVITIES WERE TAKING PLACE IN A PARK JUST OFF OF THE HIGHWAY THAT RAN THROUGH TOWN. OFF IN THE DISTANCE I HEARD A LOW RUMBLE, I LOOKED TO THE WEST AND SAW THIS GROUP OF HEADLIGHTS COME UP OVER THE RIDGE ABOUT HALF A MILE AWAY.

I RAN OUT TO THE ROAD AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, MY DAD CHASING AFTER ME. I GOT THERE JUST AS THE FIRST OF THE GROUP CAME PAST. THEIR EXHAUST PIPES SCREAMING IN MY EARS, BLOWING HOT AIR AND DUST IN MY FACE. I JUST STOOD THERE IN AWE OF THOSE MACHINES, THOSE MEN. DENIM JEANS, LEATHER VESTS, LEATHER FINGERLESS GLOVES, SUN TANNED SKIN LOOKING LEATHERY FROM TO MUCH TIME IN THE WIND, HAIR BLOWING FREELY. THE UNIFORM OF THE LAWLESS. I STILL REMEMBER THE COLORS, THE INFAMOUS RED AND WHITE WITH THE FLYING DEATHS HEAD. THE HELLS ANGELS.

MY DAD TRIED TO PULL ME BACK BY MY ARM BUT I YANKED IT AWAY AND JUST STOOD THERE WITH MY MOUTH OPEN. ONE OF THE MEN DRIVING PAST GAVE ME THE PEACE SIGN. AT THAT POINT I HAD TAKEN THE BAIT AND HE JUST SET THE HOOK. THAT WAS THE MOMENT I KNEW, NO MATTER WHAT ELSE HAPPENED IN MY LIFE THERE WOULD BE A MOTORCYCLE AND THERE WOULD BE A ROAD TO RIDE IT DOWN.

I HAVE LIVED THROUGH DRUG ADDICTION AND ALCOHOLISM, I HAVE CLEANED UP FROM BOTH. I HAVE BEEN FLAT ASS BUSTED, WITH OUT TWO DIMES TO RUB TOGETHER. I HAVE BURIED SOME FRIENDS AND I HAVE FOUND A SOUL MATE. AND WITH OUT FAIL, THROUGH THE GOOD TIMES AND BAD, THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A MOTORCYCLE AND A ROAD TO RIDE IT DOWN.

SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, YOU JUST TOOK ME A LONG WAY BACK.

Great resurrection. For me, it started with dirt bikes. But my uncle had a Harley Ultra Classic dressed for the prom and man it sounded soo good. Seeing him dressed in black with a smoke hanging out of his mouth, I could feel it running through my blood. I finally got my scoot and have had some nice rides with him. I personally ride solo, but as Mopar mentioned, there's something about a pack of bikers that gives you goosebumps, that rolling thunder. Thank god I made the move. Now, it's my daily therapy.

I was 19 years old and talking to everybody about this really cool bike I was looking at (Bike AS IN moutain bike) the price was like 2000 or something crazy like that. So I was telling my friend at work, and when he said if ur gonna spend that much why dont u just buy a motorcycle. Than it hit me A motorcycle would be alot cooler than a bike. ha ha lol so I went to a harley dealer and was asking all kinds of questions like I always do ha ha lol The guy gave me the info for a motorcycle course. So on the last day of the course We were all talking about what kind of bikes we were gonna get. So I told them a 2009 sporty 883. Than he said oh no start with a 650 ( SO GLAD HE SAID THAT) so I bought a 2006 suzuki s40, than a Vstar 1100 NOW my last bike for a while 2005 YAMAHA ROADSTAR.

The bike that grabbed my attention was the purple and yellow 1994 Honda CBR 600. I was in college, I wanted it. My friends kept insisting I was more the Harley type than a sportsbike. In 2001 I bought my first bike, a 2001 VStar 650 Classic. Then in 2010 I bought my Roadie, and hopefully by next year she will be joined in the garage by a Street Glide. I guess my friends were right... But truth be told, at times I still check the ads for a cheap sportbike. Never pull the trigger though.

1970 Evil Knevil at the ASTRO DOME... I was about 9 yrs.old lived in Baytown,TX. A friend had a Cushman and only weighed about 70 lbs. he always asked his father to start it for him,one day his father asked if I could ride a bike,I told him yes...he told us if I got it started I could ride it first....Man,I worked my ass off trying to get it started,he had taken all the gas out of it...about a hour later I walked 2 miles to my house, got Dad's gas for the lawnmower, walked back and was knocking on their door asking to see Merill...Two minuets later,a fat little fart was jumping up and down on the foot starter again. When that thing popped off and his father came running out, I told him i was first to ride it..that old fart told us to turn it off and made his son go in the house...the next day while his dad was at work we took it out and ran the pp out of it...when his dad came home he was going to ride it but some how all the gas was gone and so where we. L.O.L.
I've owned Old school H-D's, Kawa's,Honda's,Maco's,Bultaco's,Suzuki's,Yammie,s I always have had a bike around me since I saw the Evil jump buses ,and for some reason I've always had to sell them, moving from C.C.,Tx.having kid's, bill's,you name it...But this one is a Keeper,

When I was a little kid in the 1960s, my Dad had a 1947 Harley Servicar like the one pictured below that he bought from the Milwaukee Police Department. He outfitted a rumble seat with seat belts in the back & he'd take my brother & I riding down to the lakefront & cruise around on warm summer evenings. After that, we'd swing by the TV6 tower which at the time was the tallest free standing transmission tower in the USA around sundown so we could see it light up - the entire tower was lined with lights at the time. Like a big steel Christmas tree in the summer! If we didn't go to the TV6 tower we'd get ice cream cones & hit Timmerman Airport to watch planes take off & land.Definitely one of my fondest childhood memories growing up in Milwaukee among a lot of real live old-school bikers. Every time I see a Servicar, it brings back those memories.

Re:When Did You Know???? 6 Years, 2 Months ago
in 2003 when i was in Iraq. my battle buddie and i got a hold of a magazine with a yahama R1 add in it. that is the first time i got the thought in my head about riding. when i had my 2 week leave later that year i had a brand new 2003 honda CBR 600RR in my garage. my buddy eneded up with the Honda CBR 1000RR. then a few months after i got back and survived a year in a combat zone 20,000 miles away, i almost killed myself 2 miles from my house. totaled the bike but walked away. a year later i had lost my nerve for sport bikes and sold it. then i got married and wanted to share that passion with my wife and we found a fread deal on our 06 road*, and haven't looked back yet. great ride!! great forum!!!
