Fork fluid 6 Years, 4 Months ago
Gona change my fork oil soon. Found much info here as I expected. Do most of you guys go back to the 5wt or up it to 10? If I go up to 10 wt what will I notice different. I mean I know it will be stiffer but is tht a good thing or not? Do I need to replace the seals?

If you feel the ride is mushy go with a 7.5 or 10 I dont know how to say it other than it will ride firmer.

I went with redline 10w. Good stuff but expensive.

I went "old school" used tranny fluid, equivalent to 10wt. No issues, and helps to lessen the dive when braking.

I went with Silkolene racing grade 7.5W I'm not much on the auto trany fluid it is formulated for trany's not shocks. I wouldn't change the seals unless you have a lot of high miles on the bike.

I went with 10wt. Its not stiffer, but firmer, and yes I think its a good thing. Less nose dive when you use the front brakes, smoother on bumpy roads, and more sure footed in the curves.

Ditto on the 10wt fluid. I know a lot of dirt bike guys who swear by tranny fluid but, I chose to buy Harley Fork oil which is 10wt and $7 a qt.
I also highly recommend progressive spring upgrade. Not much cost for the huge difference in ride and handling. I wouldn't worry about the seals.

I would have to agree with that. It's an upgrade worth installing especially if you're going to replace the oil. The cheapest place I found the spring was from phatperformanceparts. $59.
If you add a few more items and make it $99, it's shipped free.
