Ok, when it first started doing this I would turn the petcock off as I came up the off ramp where we were stoppig. So I didn't have much fuel in the system once I got to the pump. I would idle before shutting it off. After filling up and taking a break 15 to 30 minutes. I would try and start the bike. The fuel still poured out, mind you with the petcock off. Once all the fuel was gone, turn on the petcock same problem.

When I speak of hard starting, it turns over fine but as fuel pours out it floods. once it fires, it back fires blows black smoke etc. I would twist the throttle to try and keep it running. Sometime it would clear up other times it would die. Then start the process all over.

It's heat related whatever it is. We ran up the mountain early in the morning with no problems. As soon as it got a 100 degrees the problem would start.

If this is what I have to deal with to own this bike, I will go look for a fuel injection model. I hate to say this, but NONE of the Honda VTX's or the HD's had this problem carb or fuel injection models. Now I'm not buying one of those, but there has to be a solution to this problem.

Sounds like more than my issue, Silverado.

Those symptoms don't mirror mine at all, but I don't know enough to tell you what to check next.

I just finished a 900 mile ride to Mammoth Caves, KY last weekend in 109 to 112 degree heat, with the wife and luggage on board. My Roadie didn't like the extreme heat, and at one point it started idling so high on it's own (1700 rpms by my tach) I thought it was gonna blow..... turned it off and it was like a cannon shot backfire. That got everyone's attention in Glasgow, KY! Got the idle adjusted down, and twice the bike died on me right in uphill busy intersections. Her little temper tantrums were her way of letting me know she didn't like the heat. Didn't have the carb puke (I have had it in the past) but I do the petcock shut-off for 10-15 seconds and that helps... but it does flood sometimes when it's extremely hot out which makes it a bit tricky to restart. I just hold the throttle wide open while cranking it over (like we oldsters used to do before electronic ignition days with cars). Never fails to start, but I don't get any black smoke. Sounds like you may be a bit rich. I run Marvel Mystery Oil in every tankful (2 ounces) and my bike loves it. Every bike (especially carbed bikes) can be quirky. I never let my friends give me a hard time about my bike... most of them I outride 5:1 (or more!) and I know my bike inside and out (they don't)

I'm know how you feel Silverado. The first time mine did it I was a little concerned but after finding out what it was I am OK with it. I just turn my petcock to off before stopping and it doesn't seem to do it as bad. It will still do it, in extreme heat, but how often do you ride in this kind of heat. Not often enough to worry about, for me anyway. I tried going pumpless but it caused more problems than a little gas running out the carb. I went back to the pump. I'm sure someone will suggest insulating the fuel line with heat tape. Like going pumpless, it may work for some, it did not help me. I just live with it. If others want to make fun, you can laugh with them (or at them) as you are leaving them in your dust.

it's the alcohol in the gas. The boiling point of alcohol is lower than gas so it causes the gas to boil.
Common issue with the RS. I temporarly fixed mine by not buying ethonal blends of gas but that is not possible anymore where I live. I then accidentally fixed it by rejetting my carb when I installed a BAK and port intake manifold. I rode my bike in 105 temp sunday and no boil over. Love it
I also used to sit at the stop light or in traffic reving my engine like an idiot just because it sounded cool. This too will over heat your engine and cause the heat to over heat your carb. I don't do that either

It might not hurt to check your float level. As much of an issue as your having, it could be that the float is set to high. Many are having issues from time to time, but as constant as yours is, it could be the float.
http://weislake.com/sig/mucker/carb/carbfloat/carbfloat.htm

Set it to the 04 and later spec.

If your not runing a fuel stabilzer in your fuel like Seafoam or Startron, it'd be a good idea to start. Most advertise that they counteract the ethanol...whether that helps with heat issues or not I couldn't say.

I ran the tube to the bottom of the bike. I'll look to take the carb off once the weather changes. For all the trouble, it's hard to take the bike apart when I could be riding it. I do use Seaform on a regular bases.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll keep you posted once I take it apart.

I had the exact problem you stated, every day it was hot out, the bike would puke when I shut it off. I did ScottW's approach to solving it. I wrapped the fuel line between the cylinders with insulation tape, I also lined the bottom of the gas tank with it as well as the carb itself. Doing all that solved about 99% of the puking. I know have a gas station near me with non-ethonol gas as since switching to that, I have had zero problems with puking. I rode today in 95 degree plus heat with no problem.

I have an '07 Silverado also. I too had that problem for awhile...I noticed hot weather and riding in the fall were worse. I'm assuming temps (hot weather) and gas blends (in the fall, when it happened even in cool weather) were to blame. I shut my fuel off and try to run the line dry when I stop. Usually don't have a problem, even if I don't run it dry. I run seafoam whenever I think of it, probably on average every tank or two. I would do the insulation thing, but this works so I don't bother.
