From you carb gurus.
Bike was running fine. Sits for two days.. Runs like crap. Must be some trash in carb/gas.
Changed plugs and it help somewhat but stills stumbles and cuts out when giving full throttle.
How hard is it to take carb off and give it a good cleaning?
How do it tell what jets are in it.
I'm not much of a mechanic but I can do simple stuff.
Bike is a 2001 with about 17000 miles. |

Sounds like a fuel flow problem. I would take the fuel feed hose off the carb and "key on" to see what fuel flow looks like as well a quality of the fuel (collect in tub.) If you got crap in your tank, a blockage could be at the petcock, fuel filter, pump, or carb.
With only a 2 day sit, it's sounding like low flow or water. My 2c |

I'm thinking water also. Drain the bowl, and also drain about a gallon of fuel out of the petcock, with the lever set to reserve. Disconnect the fuel line right at the petcock. Put a short piece of hose on the petcock and drain it into a clear container. And see what you get.
After draining both of those, add about 8 to 10 ounces of Seafoam to the fuel, and ride it like you stole it for that tank and see if it clears up.

When y'all say drain the bowl, how is that done ?
I have not looked at diagram of the carb but I'm assuming the bowl is on the bottom. Does it come off fairly easily or is there a trick to draining? |

Yes. The bowl is on the bottom, and the drain is the little nipple, that comes off the bowl. There is an allen head screw right next to the nipple, that you loosen to open the drain. An allen socket and an extension, reaching thru from the left side, will let you loosen the screw. Don't over tighten it when you snug it up again.
Shine your light in from the left side, there by the fuel pump, and all will become clear. I use a small piece of clear poly hose pushed on the nipple, to get the fuel away from under the motor as it drains. Once its open, and drains, you can turn the key to on without starting the bike, and the pump will push fuel thru the bowl, and rinse things out good.
Turn the key off. Snug the bowl screw. Remove the tube, and your finished.

Got it drained. It's raining here so I can't take it for a spin to see if it helps. I'll let you know what I find.
Can I spray some carb cleaner directly into the intake without hurting anything? I really don't want to take it off unless I have to. |

Find some Seafoam, and add it to the fuel. Since the bike is at least running, it should help. It may take a tank or two, but it'll clean the inside of the carb for you.

Heet is cheap and at every major parts store , and it's job is to remove water from tanks and carbs. Consider giving it a try as well.
