What would cause my trip meter to reset to "0" on it's own?

Mine does when the meter loses power. If you unplug the meter or disconnect the battery. Also, if the battery is too low and try to crank the engine it will reset to 0.

??

Did you unhook your battery for any reason?

You beat me to it!! +1 on the battery being too low. Before I replaced my battery when I would crank and it would have a hard time starting sometimes it would reset the dash.

No. I reset after every fillup. Yesterday I hit reserve and it showed 14.4 miles on my meter. The gas gage showed empty but I don't recall the low fuel light being on. It may have been, I just didn't notice. I usually don't go by the gage as it works sometimes and sometimes it don't. A few weeks ago the gage showed half-full and the meter "0". I figure I will need a new sending unit before long. Now I can't depend on my meter.

I disconnected my battery about six weeks ago installing a WOLO horn. Right after I went on a 1000 mile trip and had no problems with my gage or trip meter so I don't believe it is a loose battery cable, but I will check.

Sorry guys, I was typing as you were responding...

It could be the battery. It is about 2-3 years old and I did keep it hooked to a tender but our neighborhood dog had nothing to do one day so he chewed the wires to the tender in two. I have Erbman's wire and it seems strong but it may be getting weak. I will have to check that also. My first thought was the battery cables being loose so I will check that first, then I will get the battery load tested.
