Teach a new dog old tricks... 7 Years ago
I have had my Road Star for a week and I love it. I did not get any manuals with it so I have to ask things now and then, or until my Clymer's manual arrives. I want to know how to re-set the trip odometer. I have learned to set the clock but I can't figure out the trip-a or trip-b re-set. Can anyone help?
Also, what about on-line manuals? I seem to remember seeing one somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it now.
Thanks.

The button on the left under the speedo will toggle you between trip a and trip b and odometer.
Holding the right button down when on trip a or b will reset it.

Well Thom that's what I was thinking but I could not get it to reset to zero. The clock would start flashing and I could reset it but not the trip odometer. I'll give it another try when I get home. Thanks.

I ran across a 2001 with very few miles and in pretty good shape. It has had the 4th pinion recall done. That's the first thing I checked before I bought it. It has new tires, battery and great sounding pipes. The pipe have no markings on them but the PO told me they were "Yamaha" pipes, from the dealer. I don't know what brand they sell.

While I'm asking questions, I understand the oil pump gear may be an issue and needs changing to the one on 2005 model. What is involved with changing this gear out? Is it just a matter of pulling the cover and swapping the gear or am I missing something? Do I need to drain the oil first? I'm guessing it is pretty straight forward but I like to know what I'm getting into before I get into it, if you know what I mean...
