The service guy told me they would let me know of anything that needed to be done like honing cylinders, etc in addition to what is included in the recall package. I have read about the oil pump gear, Don't really know what the exact issue is, but is there a way to tell if it is going to be a future problem or is it just a precautionary thing? Since it has almost 43k on the clock, I wonder about the clutch spring as well and if I want to convert it over to the standard type spring or just replace the diaphragm spring? Anything else?

Ya, If the dealer tells you your cylinders need honing you are already in trouble before you even get started, These cylinder walls have a factory coating that should not be honed. Hopefully the service guy is only up selling & the mechanic knows what he is doing, Mort  |

+1 on what Mort said. Be sure to put some tape on your butt crack so they can't stick it to you. Some dealers seam to be real good, and others not so good.

The pump gear is real easy to diagnose. If it looks like the middle one it needs to look like the left one before it looks like the right one.

These guys are correct if they said anything about honing the cylinders I would go back to the dealer and either pick up my bike and bring to another dealer or straiten them out that you won't be taken to the bank with a bunch of their foolishness. If they "Hone" the cylinders they will "DESTROY THE ENGINE" and don't let anyone tell you anything different. These motors have a Nikasil coating that will be removed during "any" honing process and new cylinders will be needed to fix it. There should be "NOTHING" for you to pay for in the recall with the exception of a oil pump gear (if it has the old style) in it now and a clutch spring if you choose to replace it. You don't pay for oil, filter or anything else and don't let them make you think there is a cost for any of that!!!!!!  |

Honing the cylinders should not even be part of their conversation with you. If you're referring to upgrading pistons as an option, some dealers offer that during the recall work.

Well I think it is just a clueless Service manager hack speech trying to set me up for a possible future upcharge, but I will be on the watch. If they do hone my cylinders I'd be fine with that since they would be buying me a new set.
