You guys are some picky people sometimes. The suspension is touted left and right on this bike. Part of this is the way the aluminum frame reacts to the input. As far as brakes, my XS650 weighs about the same and has less disc, but will lock that front wheel with the right master cylinder and line. Power? Well, even this less expensive version is gonna have you reading its license plate. If you have never ridden a bike at this weight with that much horsepower and torque available, you should. As far as water cooled, do you want a reliable strong motor, or are you more concerned about looks? Water cooled bikes run forever, and don't have the heat issues that air cooled bikes have in slow speed high temperature operation. I'd LOVE to have one, personally, and although the screaming output of the original motor sounds like fun, I'm sure I could live with the "reduced output" of this nice little addition.
Yup its not a huge drop (22hp) Im just not sure why they made a smaller bike so close to the other Scout. Its not like these are bikes in a different class. Its not even the difference between a Vstar 1100 and a 650. But its enough to drop below the insurance companies 1000cc mark. Personally if it were me I would just went smaller and made it a different class. Right now its 2 bikes from the same manufacture competing for the same dollars.

The market perception of a 10K ceiling is well documented as a "buy" barrier.

The largest Victory dealership in the universe, Foxboro, Mass is not 10 miles up US Route 1 from me. They are now our local Indian dealer as well. The Scout is a very fine looking machine. If you don't mind that it's liquid cooled, (I do).
According to October issue of Motorcyclist, it's 558 pounds and packs 100 hp! If that's so, it'll make our R*s look pretty silly from light to light. We have pretty regular open house ride dates here. I've tried the Chief, but I haven't sampled a Scout yet... my solo set-up R* is plenty good enough for me.
I rode the scout at a demo days event I went to a few weeks back. I had only intended on riding the big bikes because that's what ours are, especially the Vintage because it is the most like ours. After hearing a guy say that the Scout had 100hp and was 600 lbs, I thought what the hell. I will say that Scout really moves out nicely when you twist it hard. Rides terrible, corners great though. That 100 hp is a lot of fun in that light weight bike.

I dont know if I am the average consumer or not but my though is this. I have a bike as my primary means of transportation so I dont mind spending money on them. If I am going to go buy a Scout and I like the look of those bike why spend 2 grand on 20HP? If it were say something small around 500-700cc then thats a different story but really we are talking 22hp and 8ci. It just seems like they are setting up the regular Scout for failure. I do understand what you are saying but when push comes to shove you are talking about what $10 a month?

If you look at the online specs chart, it indicates the 60 is 4 pounds heavier than the 69 and the 60 gains about 109 pounds from empty to full tank. Must be a typo.
