Cobra 2/1 with Big City Thunder QQ install 8 Months, 1 Week ago
Currently working on my '01 1600 RS. It has the Cobra 2 into 1 pipe. The baffle in it now has been modified quite a bit from what I can tell by the previous owner. The tone with this baffle is quite nice but it still has that sharp crack and some backfiring. What I'm looking for is opinions and options to quite it down. Haven't been able to find a good pic of the baffle in its stock form, so that'd be a start.

Here are the pics:

It looks just like mine. What do you think has been modified? I have inserted the smartpartz baffle in mine it mellows it out some what. It is inserted into the baffle you pictured. I can wind it up to 4 grand, and back off the throttle and it will decelerate with out any popping whatsoever. You must have a leak somewhere vacuum or exhaust.

You can also get some muffler packing from your nearest dirt bike shop or order some and pack the back of the baffle. I have packed mine and also ran with out the packing and can't tell much difference. The packing goes between the head and the cone.

what did yall do to get the baffle out of the Cobra 2 into 1 once it had been in there a while? Did you have to remove the muffler section of the exhaust system to get it out? I took the screws out of the end of the pipe and that inner unit was really tight like it did not want to budge.

I have a Smartpartz baffle to go in there and a new package of wrap stuff made for 4 stroke bikes just have not done it yet.

I used a pair of channel locks stuck them up in there and spread them and popped it out... Once you get the smartpartz baffle in there you can reach in there and grab it with some channel locks and pull it out. OH Yea, throw those button head allen wrench bolts away and go to the hardware store and by some regular hex head bolts to replace them...

Are the holes welded up near the rear of the baffle on yours? It also looks like it's been taken apart and the inside part of the baffle has been cut down. Looks that way anyhow.
No leaks of any kind. I would say more of a deceleration cackle, not backfire.

Over time they can get hard to get out and you need some meat to get ahold of instead of the Little allen head. I had to remove the muffler to drill a couple of mine out because they were really seized in the threads.

A small slide hammer will easily remove the stock baffle. A bit of high temp anti seize will also help on the baffle bolts.

I talked with Big City Thunder today and ordered a set of the QQ baffles. It is actually 2 seperate baffles that insert into the head pipes right before the tail megaphone section is attached.
They say to also leave the rear original baffle in as well.

Would still like to confirm my baffle is indeed stock.

As far as I can tell it looks identical to mine.
