Glue?? 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Made a first good ride of the year, about 300 miles last week. Lost a road peg and brake pedal pad along the way. I had put a chrome brake pedal cover on during the winter and lost one of the rubber pads off of it. Just wondering what type of adhesive you guys have used on these pads that has worked well. I used RTV silicone on the pad that came off.

Polyurethane based, not silicone based. You will have to scrub it good with a solvent to get rid of the silicone so the polyurethane will stick.

3m's double sided adhesive tape can be found in 3 strengths at Home Depot.

Extremely Strong Mounting Tape

Everyone has seen the smaller rated stuff. I used the 20 pound stuff to mount my rubber strips, my chrome fork tips and all my fender trim.

The stuff is so sticky it can be tricky to work with, keep it off your fingers. But you cut to size and push your piece on, zero waiting time for curing like an adhesive.

I've never even tried going up to the stuff rated at 30 pounds.

Auto body jobber houses (Paint supply Stores) carry 3M tape that the factory used to use for putting molding on with. That stuff sticks real good and a pain PITA to get off, we use heat guns to remove emblems and molding. Like JD says clean the surface really good with a solvent of some sort, we always used prep sol or lacquer thinner. Weight it down with something heavy for a while to insure good adhesion.

Thanks. I thought about a double sided tape but didn't really know how it would stick.

Like I said, my fork bullets and fender tips have never moved. (probably jinxing it now..)

For the trim, I taped it on and then used plugs for the screw holes.
