Cold weather riding 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Ok last year I had no fairing and it sucked riding in sub 40 degree weather this year I have a fairing and a 13 inch windshield. Any tips on staying warm while riding?

Small ceramic heater, and a very, very long extension cord.

Might want to opt for heated clothing?? For me, it was easy to layer to keep body warm, was hands and feet, so used self contained battery heated sox, and glove liners to bikes battery.

Go to cycle gear there's one in Greensboro and get a set of freeze out gear. Last year I rode New Years day and was sweating.

Got a heater jacket liner and liners for gloves. Chaps, crash bar chaps, face covering and a helmit that covered my dear with some padding. Rode in 8 C, 120 km's and did not suffer. The heated clothes work so far. Though my feet were ok, getting battery operated insoles due to poor circulation in my feet. Can wear the stuff snow blowing so that justifies the cost somewhat. My windshield is smaller than stock but had face covered as windchill is very noticeable on uncovered skin. Once cold, I am hosed. Right now Nova Scotia has above average temps so never really tested the gear out consistantly . So far impressed with the electric stuff.

I ride all year here in PA. My gear is low tech...long johns, flannel shirt, flannel jeans, hoodie and lined leather jacket...thin glove liners and lined leather gloves. If it's really cold, I throw on some Carhartt bibs over Woolrich tactical pants/long johns instead of the flannel jeans. I've ridden in temps in the 20s and been okay. As long as there's no ice on the roads...I am good to go

I just rode this morning for the first time in a few weeks....39 degrees. Leather jacket with zippered liner...full face helmet....welding style gloves I had in garage and jeans and walmart work biots. Very comfortable. Ideally I would get better gloves (gauntlet) and something over the jeans but not bad on a 20 min ride to work.

Think about naked women. You'll feel all warm inside, kinda like when you used to climb the rope in gym class.

in all seriousness, I liked Fireman's response best - drive your truck.

one thing I found that helped was putting disposable painters gloves (latex) under my riding gloves which are vented - helps take some of the chill away.
