Turn Signals on Rear Swing Arm 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I am changing out my rear fender with different mods from time to time, and I want to install turn signals on the frame or rear swing arm of my 99 RS. Does anyone have any info on what they've done? Or more importantly, know the diameter of the tubes on the swing arm? I want to get clamps for mounting bullet style lamps on there. If there's a kit that's out there, any help would be much appreciated.

Do like I did and mount them to the boomerang on the frame like I did my caddy lights.

There will be more bouncing and vibration there vs the rest of the frame that is suspended. Will that be hard on the bulbs or LEDs?

Blue steel customs have done something with their replacement swing arms , they set led's in the end sections symmetrically of course. Think they call me 'after burners'. I don't think the shaking would bother the led's but the bulbs may have a short life span!

I used some kuryakan highway peg mounts (Made to grip an engine guard) and used a universal light with some LED's.

I also got the modulator so that these are both my brake and turn signals. Only two lights in the rear of the bike.

I tried it a couple different ways and was never happy with it so gave up. You have to use LED's for sure.
My biggest concern is the lights are far too low to be seen well by the cagers behind us.
I like to be seen so I have a Lucas tailight (large), bullet red turn/running/stops mounted on fender beside license palte and a LED license plate with a red LED full width of the plate that is also run/turn/stop. LED's allow you to have a lot of light in a small space so it helps a lot.

Not that anyone ever cares, but the height of your signals and the distance between them is defined by a federal motor vehicle safety standard, and in many states you can acquire an improper equipment citation for violations. Me personally, I like my lights out there where they are good and visible, and I have more running that it came with to enhance my visibility to other road users.
