Installing 05 pulley on 02 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Hopefully someone can help.

I have a 70 tooth 05 rear pully that came with 05 cast wheels I'm installing on my 02 roadie. I've heard all kinds of things, but I just want to make sure that if I change to the 70 tooth 05 pulley and install the narrow drive belt that fits with pulley, I can leave my stock 02 front pulley that came with the bike. I've been told that running the narrow belt should be ok with the original wider front pulley. The reason I don't just use my 02 rear pulley with the cast wheel is the 05 wheel and pulley are all chrome. Hope this makes sense to everyone. Thx

RR, Have seen others on the forum run the 02 pulley on the 1700 with the narrow belt. Have not heard any bad feedback from anybody. You should be golden with the narrow belt. Ride on, Mike

Changing the belt is no big deal. Can be done in about an hour, but take your time. The swingarm has to come out, and the swingarm bolt is to be tightened to 90 ft lbs.

The belt adjustment is relatively important, and it's about 10 lbs of pressure in the middle to lift it about 1/2". If you have a tension gauge, you'll find that your belt will end up tighter than you realize, and typically tighter then the idea guys suggest here about the 45 degree twist. Just sayin'.
