I'm not a cleaning freak on my bikes, so inherent finish durability is important to me. Chrome is supposed to be pretty and resilient.

JD, I spoke to Freedom before I ordered them. I got into it with the rep about the problems they were having with the chrome. They said they have since switched back to their original chrome dealer and the problem should be fixed. They said it was a recent (last 18 months) batch that was having the issues and the issues started when they changed chrome vendors to a slightly better deal. Apparently they received quite the backlash from their customer base and quite a few canceled orders for Harleys too!

They could be blowing smoke, but there is only one way to find out. Worst comes to worst I will return them.

Cheftuner, Had my 4" chrome with black tips about 3 years. Live in Indiana and will ride in the rain. Love everything about the Freedoms but the chrome. Can say that it is the only chrome on the bike that I have had a problem with, if it was the rust belt or the rain I would think the other chrome would be affected. Can't speak for anyone else but mine not only had pitting but staining like chrome was so thin it wore through. Could be a problem with the run of chrome on the ones I got. Someone posted they got a heat shield replaced not to long ago. The sound and the clearance is good and if you get them I am sure you would like them. Hope they have fixed the cheap chrome. Ride on, Mike.

Good luck is all I can say, mine are over 4 years old and the chrome is total crap and it has been since a year after I put them on. So their problems with chrome go back a lot farther then they are saying. I started hearing about problems with their chrome right after I put mine on.

The reports of bad chrome go back beyond 18 months. As for returning them, that is what really brought the Freedom issue to a boil. When they wouldn't even work with a high volume dealer for a return or warranty replacement. Freedom Performance True Duals failed @ 800 miles

(Yes, I know they have recently taken care of one member on a part due to all the negative publicity that has come up lately..)

Mine have been ok for going on 2 years. One very light spot of clouding right out of the box that you can only see in certain light. The flanges won't hold up for sure, but that might be expected?

Honestly all in all they're better than my HardKromes ever were. If this changes of course I will broadcast it here loudly and with much complaining.

Chefturner I'm a little late to the party but I'm running 4" duals with Dchopper brackets and HD patrol bags. They are 2 yrs old in Indiana rode in rain no problem with chrome. Just watch out cause they are low and will drag but love them and the sound. Here's a link if you want to see some close ups of them.

Re:Are freedoms really that bad? 2 Years, 4 Months ago
chef, i have had mine for just over 2 years. i ride down a dirt(gravel) rode everyday that is about a mile long that is watered down with salt water (brackish) from the river to help keep the dust down.
i'm not a clean freak neither but i do wash it about every 2-3 weeks.
i don't have any pitting and am very happy with my 4" freedoms. love the sound when you get on it, but when cruzing they are a smooth melody. not to loud but not to soft.
if you have a bike cover, you have to be real carefull that it doesn't make contact with the crossover pipe if it is still hot.
hope you enjoy yours as much as i have enjoyed mine

Hey are you guys running baffles if so which ones? My freedom slash outs are LOUD right now, I cant wait for the throaty dual sound but I am curious if you are running the stock baffles, quiet baffles, baffles... etc.

Still want to be heard on the road but don't want to blow my eardrums out either. I must be getting old
