Audio question for all you experts out there 5 Years, 8 Months ago
Just got off the phone with the guys over at reckless. Pretty sure I'm going with a reckless fairing but I'm going to do the audio myself so I get exactly what I want and save a few bucks in the process. I won't have any problems with the installation but I'm wondering how the charging system holds up on a 2000 Road Star. Most of the head units I'm considering are in the 52Wx4 power range and I'm probably going with 2-6x9's. Expressway driving, stop and go, etc. give any issues? Thanks in advance!

I have an o3 with a Sony 52*4 and 4 5.25"s. The thing to remember is you rarely if ever are pulling 100% of what the head can produce. But to answer the question, no, I've not had any issues. I also charge a gps, but on the savings side, I'm running a HID headlight, and led tail light. I would also recommend not to go with a cd unit, but one that has either a tune tray like my Sony or at least a plug in for a flash drive on the front. To much vibration for any cd player.

Also, don't try to save money by buying one of those knock off ebay hidden antennas like I did. It barely gets a signal here in town and forget about it when I'm out and about. I'm thinking of trying an antenna booster and seeing if that helps any....

You may want to change your stator and rectifier out to an 05 or newer version for more amps. I have the Reckless with 2-6x9's and I love it. I'm running a Pioneer media reciever, not sure the model number. I wired the front and rear speaker outputs together to push more wattage to the speakers continuously, no need for any amp. Mine doesn't have a usb port but it plays mp3 and wma files on dvd's so I've got about 2hrs on 1 dvd. Plays fine, only skips on bad bumps, at highway speed it is zero problem.
Roger is right.... do not waste your money on the hidden antenna. I have one with a booster and it sucks!
I'm looking at changing my head unit to a MB Quart marine, I think WR1-USB? It has usb in, aux in, and sd card slot. When I change it I'm gonna remove the hidden antenna and put in a stubby one inside the fairing and see if that will work better. Also my Polk DB's are awesome if you're looking for speakers.

Thanks for the info. All my music is on my iPhone so I'm thinking about going with a Bluetooth capable unit. Good info on the speakers too. Pioneer makes some 5-way 6x9's that are pretty good but I've heard really good things about the Polk audio speakers too. My current radio is headphones plugged into my phone and I know that is not the safest thing to do. It does deaden the sound of the wind and pipes on long highway trips though. Recently took a 11-hour one way trip to Lillington NC and the headphones saved my ears. Spent a few hours not listening to anything-just using the phones as earplugs.
