Computer Gurus Assistance Needed 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I am looking to purchase an external drive.
Costco has some good prices on Seagate 4TB units.
Mixed reviews on this.
Any suggestions?

I use HGST ( hitachi) I get mine at B&H or Amazon. Seagates have one of the higher fail rates.

Yep!

Hitachi is great, so is WD. I used to exclusively use Seagate, but that was over 20 years ago. For archival purposes, WD Blue is good value for money.

I'm a big fan of the outboard USB 3/SATA 3 box into which you can insert your own hard drive, especially for archival purposes, but you won't get one of those enclosures and a decent 4TB drive for $100.

If you do buy the Seagate, just make sure you back IT up once in a while. I keep at least two backups of important things especially since travel photos, documents etc are predominantly digital.

cheers

And I went to Seagate due to all my WD failures...

Not based on work stuff, just out of my 30 or so personal drives.
