The belt and pulleys all were broke in at the same time.
So seriously if you make a change like this and use an already there belt it could require a new belt with a break in period? So when you put on a new belt you would get sounds like this that would go away with a break in period? I have never switched a belt before so do not know what a new one sounds like.

Take some bar soap and give the pulley teeth a rubdown.
Maybe it'll quell the chirp until the belt and back pulley have a chance to get better acquainted.

Are the cogs in the belt setting all the way into the grooves of the pulley? Also check to see if the belt is hitting the rollers under the front pulley cover. check that the belt is installed in the same rotation as it was on the bike it come from. last thing I got is to saturate the inside of the belt with a silicone spray.

Not sure how to check the rotation of the belt as it was not replaced with the pulley fomr the donor bike just the pulley was. As far as the rollers they are fine. Did not think to use a spray belt dressing or the soap thing. Worth a try I guess. Cogs on belt seating all the way does not change the sound as it happens even when I just move the belt a bit in the pulley by hand. Seems like to belt is just not happy with its new partner. Again I have never replaced a belt so I do not know what happens when you do that.

With everything else being right a loose belt will chirp worse than a properly tensioned belt.

I have replaced a belt with a good used one after the dealer cut my old one off my wrecked bike and never had an issue even when I replaced the whole rear wheel with the custom setup. Still think that is why they got rid of the pulley.

Sorry I mis-understood, I thought you installed a used belt from the donor bike when I said check belt rotation. Don't use belt dressing like that sticky stuff some people spray on a V belt. You can clean the belt with soapy water and a scrub brush and after it dries use regular silicone spray and it will help condition the belt and quiet it down at least for a while until it gets a chance to seat into the pulley. That is, as long as the tension isn't to tight. I would rather have a little chirp on decel than a belt whine from being too tight. |

OK Curt I'll go with that. But the PO is a member and he stated that he pulled it off a bike he had acquired and it was fine then. If in fact the PO just dumped it for some other reason (sinister that it) what would I look for that would give me a clue as to a problem with the teeth of the pulley?
