Re:Seat Latch Tool. 9 Years ago
Hi - this is rick from Idaho. Trying to get my 1999 roadstar going for the new season but need to get my seat up to charge my battery. Have always had difficulty with the seat latch but this time it will absolutely not move with the key. Tried making your tool but I think I have the wrong size. Could you give me the dimensions on the hook and on the distance to the tape. Thanks.

Just keep it under your seat. That way you'll never lose it!!

From where you hold it and the loop comes in it's 4" then a 3/4 strip of electric tape. Then 4" more to 1st bend in the hook, both sections of the hook measure 1" each. Taking the side covers off may help you see where you need to be. I used a old CB antenna, I am not sure a coat Hanger wire would be stiff enough.

But... my directions are designed to make this up in advance and teach yourself how to use it OR have another RS handy to get a feel for it with the seat off and then travel right out to yours and you can pop it off pretty quick. Once you know how to do it, it's easy.

I like the Bar-b-que flavor slim jims my self... and believe me if you leave 'em in your saddle bags long enough... you could lift the seat off with 'em...
But really, MS1700, Nice tool though... I'm always afraid I'll snap the key off in the ignition when the latch get stiff like that...
Oh, and howdy rikhowe
