Loren, based on your comment about a car in the median that looked like it might have been broken down makes me wonder if you rode into some oil or coolant.

You're surely a Tough Lady, Loren.
Rest and let yourself heal for now. Leave that decision for another day.
It really isn't important right now.

Lots of Love from SoFla

Well pix of my bike show the engine guard did it's job well.
Damaged:
Windshield
Engine guard
Left floorboaard
Light bar
Headlight visor
Shifter
Left side boss bag is scored but looks usable
Mirror
Couldn't tell about my kuryakyn grips

Everything else is in good shape
She starts and runs
When I get her home I guess its time to start saving for the bits the ins might not fix.
Really want a fairing
A new engine guard and going to have to make a new cover for it...

How are the tires? No patch of oil or coolant would cause this unless you were leaned over when going thru it or something. Not likely on the highway.

Still just can't get my head around what exactly happened. Rear brake issue comes to mind (assuming the rear tire is still inflated). I've had two very rapid rear tire deflations (one at way higher speed than a Roadie is capable of) and the rear just felt very loose. Guide the bike to the shoulder and all was good/lessened learned.

Still glad you're relatively ok. Most important part. This just doesn't make much sense.

I was leaning to the right as I was in a sweeper and following toby around traffic.
Toby said tires def looked like the front wheel started doing fighure 8s
I will know more when I can really look at the bike instead of pics

Hey Loren, glad to hear the bike's not that bad off. The Memphis Shades batwing is still yours if you want it. [Don't worry about the cost.] It's just a matter of getting it to you. I'd like to get up to my friend's place in Philo with in the next month of at all possible, I'd be glad to bring it with me if you can get down that way to pick it up. Let me know.

I also have 2 brand new left Kuryakyn grips! If you need one let me know and I will ship one out to you free of charge. The right ones are broken at the cable inserts so they are a no go.

As long as you don't have one or two dents on the front of your bike's gas tank, chances are your insurance company won't declare it a total loss. On my 650 Classic and my first R*, I had the above mentioned damage (relatively lightly on the R*). The adjuster told me that said damage was caused by the triple tree slamming from one side to the other, and that it indicated frame damage, therefore the decision to declare it a total loss. It is damage like this that is the cause of so many salvage titles.
I'm 'recovering ' from my own mishap, although a lot less serious than yours. Basically it boils down to stalling the inadequately warmed up bike after backing it on a dark circular driveway. It was in a low spot, and the bike just rolled over to the left. I put my arm out to stop my fall, and tore or pulled something in my upper left arm that makes raising it to 90 degrees painful. Not anywhere near your league of pain and injury, but then again, I'm going to be eligable for Medicare later this year, and only have feline companions at home. You are very lucky to have someone like Toby looking after you!(You can tell him I said that, too! )
