Might be done riding..... 1 Year, 4 Months ago
|
|
As the title says i think im done. I havent had a good night sleep since i went down at the smokey mountain meet and greet. I worry about joe and jake a lot. I have looked over my financial situation about 101 times and i know i cant swing a payment on a new bike. my wife and i have been together more than half our lives and never have argued as much as we have in all that time as we have in the last few weeks. Its become obvious to me she just does not want me riding anymore. At first her arguement was she didnt want me sinking all the money into my 02 just to get it on the road even though it wouldnt have bags or a fairing and i wouldnt be happy, then it was she wanted me to have abs, now she says she wont ride anymore and she will be worried anytime i get on a bike again. Im not ready to stop but a motorcycle is a luxury and my family is a responsibility. I need to focus on that and see if life brings me back to the handlebars and cool breeze in my face after time moves on and loans get paid off. I will miss it and likely will be a bit on the down side when riding season for us northern folk rolls around again in the spring. I will stick around but will probably not post a whole lot anymore. I enjoyed meeting as many of you as i have during the meet and greets as well as on this forum. Its been said many times but i really feel this IS the best forum on the web and i hope it sticks around for years to come.

That's sad to hear but family does come first and your a good man to put them in front. Like you said later on down the road you may find yourself riding again. I know if I went down my wife and daughter would be very hesitant to want me riding again. It took me ten years to talk my wife into buying one. You've done a lot for this place and I appreciate all you've contributed. Good luck.

Jason,
You will either ride or not..... Yours and your wife's decision. But you should do it with a clear mind. It's been less than 3 weeks even though it seems like a life time.
Give yourself and your wife time to heal, physically, mentally, spiritually and financially then make whatever decision is right for you and your family.
I rode today for the first time since the Smoky M&G, seemed strange. Thought about you, Jake and Joe the entire time and didn't really enjoy it.
Take care my friend..... Prayers for you and your family.

Smokes, I have been down three times in my lifetime. Twice no big deal and the third time was one that should have killed me. Got run over from behind by a DUI lady doing over 100 miles an hour. I got thrown about 250 feet and walked away with some dirt and scratches on my jacket and helmet. I took about six months before I road again. It is some scary shit when you go down especially when you are a seasoned rider like yourself. I too have three young kids 15, 5 and 1 and think about every time I ride. I don't ride as often as I used to and don't take chances either like I used to. Let yourself heal and make the right decision for you and your family. I know a bike sitting is painful to stare at so keeping it may be not possible for you or even having another in the garage you don't ride as a replacement. We are breakable and pretty much not replaceable. I do know that if you are not feeling secure and confident riding is when you make mistakes more easily. I f you leave us we will really miss alot of knowledge that you have. Just do whats right for you and yours and feel happy that you made the right decision.

Although I have never met you, I feel kike I know you. There are several people here that I have gotten a lot of help from. I respect your decision what ever that might be. You are still pretty young and have a lot of time left to see if you are really done. Kick back, take care of the wife, and see where it leads you. I for one will miss your posts, so don't be a stranger my friend. Good luck to you and your family in whatever you decide to do.

I will always consider you a good friend wether or not you're on 2 wheels. I will miss having you around a ton though. I know you guys a little bit. Hell, I've had dinner at your house before. You came down to see me when I was cracked up in my own crash. You and Julie are special to Kristin and I. I completely understand your thinking on this one and I can respect whatever decision you guys ultimately make.
I personally have ridden with you a few times and I know you are a good rider. Bad things do happen to good riders sometimes. Nothing you can change about the past. Bad things also happen to people in cages. I've had close, personal friends that were killed and/or very seriously injured in car crashes also. Crazy medical things happen to seemingly healthy dudes also. Early heart attacks/strokes/brain aneurysms/etc. Part of that is what allows me to live a little on the edge at times. Bad shit happens to people that are just doing normal, safe things every damn day of the year. So, I might as well live it up and take a few chances. But, I don't have kids to answer to. Big difference in this world.
It's not worth your marriage or your relationship with your immediate family (in-laws though, hell yes. Do shit just to spite them ).
We love you guys and don't be a stranger no matter what happens.

Sorry to hear that Jason. You are a HUGE asset to this forum. You will be missed. I wish you would just take a neutral stance for the next 6 months, don't make any decision one way or the other and see how you and your wife feel in 6 months. Also, have your wife call my wife to discuss. Two summers ago I totaled a rental BMW and broke my tibia and fibula plumb in half. Lucky to be alive. Cost us about ten grand between insurance deductible and rental deductable. Sara was so supportive even though she was scared for a while that I would get hooked on oxycodone and never be the same. I was back on my bike within two months and she never questioned it. She has said many times that life is a risk, but you've got to chase your passions. I'm lucky to have her. She knows I'm more likely to be taken out driving a car on the freeway. Good luck with any decision you make.
