By oil tank cover are you referring to the side cover on the right side of the bike?

No the top cover where the dip stick is mounted. I am pulling the motor from the frame and it looks like that needs to come off.

Ok got the oil tank cover figured out.
My new question is, I have a new solid rim that is 6 inches wide x 16 inches. I know a 160 won't fit the rim. If I go with a 180 will I have to modify anything?
I am considering selling it and getting a cast rear to match the front I picked up instead.

Did a little research today and it looks like to do a 180 I would have to grind some off of the inner fender bracket. If I do this would it still be able to handle 2 up riding?

Huge milestone today. I got the bike started today. I used a Pepsi bottle with a barbed fitting to feed gas into the fuel pump. It turned over and fired up on the first try. I need to adjust the idle but it sounded good after all of these months.
I am trying to mount a highway bar and I have to drill a hole for the top mount. I got thru the front but it took a while. Is the back part just as thick?

And as usual with the good comes some bad. I somehow screwed my ankle up and have been resting it and using ice. After my chemo I went to the er and it is severely sprained so out of work until next week.

I did this with an HD enforcer wheel. For me the rear fender was very close to the wheel and didn't think it was enough clearance for 2 up riding.
I don't know if you can raise yr rear suspension some to help.cmw2212 wrote:

Looking good cmw2212! I've thought about doing the solid rims. Keep on, keeping on!

you drilled hole in frame? if so, yes that is very, very hard steel. hopefully you can avoid drilling into your frame. I drilled a hole for a zerk fitting in swingarm pivot and it took forever with 3 bits.
and I suppose u got the 180 on? yes, it will fit with some grinding of inner-fender subframe to allow wider tire. I ground down the lips/edges on both sides of fender subframe.. especially bottom lips--they have to be about flush. the top lips can be still be raised and not interfere with tire...I do believe.
I went to a 180, then a year later to a 200 tire in back. I think the 180 did require some brakestay grinding too, but not much.
