I have had mine most of my riding life. Only time I was ever asked for my license was 1966. Policeman pulled me over and asked for my license. I told him I didn't have one. He asked why and my answer was I can't get one. He asked why. My answer, I'm only 12. He sent me home with a warning and that was the last time I was checked.

1972, Dad and I hauled my bike to the DMV where I had to ride through some cones set up in a parking lot and use hand signals. Then I rode 20 miles to school. Only time stopped so far was last year a routine license and registration check point. South Dakota and Nebraska....so far.

Got my endorsement while in tech school in Phoenix ... 1990. Took the MSC then too.. unfortunately I had to learn from a few hard lessons on how to ride though. Sometimes those things teach us more than we can ever get in a safety class.

Funny thing is, I rode cross country bicycle till I was 25.... that's where I got a lot of my training

Got mine in 1978 when I got my first license since I didn't have a car. Rode to the DMV for parkinglot cone road test and the tester asked how I just got there and I told her that I road. She told me that it was not legal so I told her I could ride home and walk the bike back. I took the test and that was that. Didn't own a car really until 1992. Have had a MC license in 5 or 6 states since then.

Got my motorcycle license at 14(5 hp or less in 1972)with only a written test. At 16 by passing the regular vehicle license you were allowed to drive any size motorcycle. When I came out of the Army in the early 90's, i had to take written & driving tests to get my motorcycle & CDL endorsements.

Got my CY on my MI license in 2000. Just shy of my 17th birthday. Took the MSF class and all that. First street bike I ever rode was a Roadstar (my dads at the time).

In California you have to have one.
You are required to take the motorcycle drivers test.
Mostly common sense.

I have a M1 motorcycle drivers license allowing me to drive any size motorcycle.

California does restrict younger riders to smaller motorcycles for a while.
That is the hard part of the California motorcycle drivers test.
Remembering the rules for younger riders. Age etc.,.

Scooters are popular unfortunately because people can just ride with a car drivers license.
Strange if you ask me.

When Fl came up with the endorsement shit I took my 51* raked chopper down to take the test. There was no way to do the tiny course on a chopper. I watched Harley, Goldwing riders and others with big bikes flunk.

I went home and got my wifes 250 Honda Rebel and came back. All the guys were laughing at me until I passed and they failed. They then asked to use the Honda and I said $5. Made enough to buy beer for the rest of the week. Here in Fl if you have insurance and don't have the endorsement and get in an accident they will not cover you. If you get stopped without the endorsement they will impound the bike, give you a ticket and it will wind up costing you more than a grand. I now think it's a good thing because at least the riders have some type of experience before going out on the road.
