Thanks for the welcome guys. I do have a problem with my bike. I just bought it (1999 R*) and have some issues with starting it. It appears that the carb may have a clogged needle and is leaking gas into the cylinder over night. It was easy enough to start for a day and then sat overnight and now is a very slow trunover when trying to crank with no luck getting it started. I have tried the use a car battery to see if it cranks trick as mentioned in other threads and the result is the same. I don't mean to highjack this thread so if anyone has any suggestions great, if this is an old issue and I need to find the old thread about it great also. Thanks in advance for the help.
Welcome Lifeguard! You might get more responses if you start a new thread specifically detailing your problem. There are a few things to check if the bike is turning over slowly though. First I would definitely rule out the battery and the battery connections (clean and tight at both ends). If it still turns over slow check to make sure your decompression solenoid is working properly. You can do a search here for decompression solenoid to find out how to test it.
Some have also increased the gauge of their battery cables with good results. If you really want to kick it in the butt and all of the above has failed you can look into a higher torque starter like a Yamaha Warrior one or and aftermarket one along with the thicker gauge cables. Good luck!!!!
