Rusty Rotor Bolts 13 Years, 1 Month ago
I just purchased a VERY stock '99 Road Star in excellent shape that's lived it's entire life in a garage.

Everything is beautiful on it except the heads on the front rotor-to-wheel bolts. They are rusted and I'd like to replace them. (I'm guessing the reason they've rusted is the heat they're exposed to...)

Replacement is no big deal but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, has Yamaha perhaps provided a better replacement part?

I've thought about replacing them with stainless but they are in such an important place, I'd be very concerned about meeting spec.

Thanks

Post edited by: alanbrooks, at: 2005/01/06 23:27

If it were me Alan, I would use the stainless. They polish up real nicely with a little work.

Don't know about the spec, but it wasn't an issue on mine.

A stainless bolt is going to be far superior to the stock bolt in this application. It is an upgrade in tensile and sheer strength, I would not sweat it at all. Are these the bolts covered up by the chrome disk?

Nope, they're not covered up at all. The heads are visible and go through the chromed trim piece, through the rotor and into the wheel hub.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
