The 'oil checking' process on the R* is not very 'precise'

.... so I never check mine. I put in the required amount during an oil change and then leave it alone. If you're not burning oil which you shouldn't be, you won't lose enough between oil changes to notice.

If you are worried then .... take the seat off, warm the bike up to operating temp (less than 5 minutes), turn engine off, unscrew the cap, wipe off gauage, insert gauage, pull it out and check the level.

When I have done it I have my bike straight up but it doesn't appear to make much difference.

I'VE SEEN GUYS REST THEIR KICKSTAND ON A 4X4 PIECE OF WOOD SO THE BIKE IS PRETTY MUCH LEVEL. OR, IF YOU HAVE A M/C JACK, THAT WORKS WELL TOO. GOOD LUCK. HAVE YOU TRIED CHANGING THE OIL YET?!

I have two pieces of 2 X 4 nailed together. I put them under kickstand after I have rode bike and waited about half hour. Dont really know what everyone else thinks but seems to me that the tank is just a oil resevoir and it really isnt that critical as long as your close.
