I Have the Breakaway cruise control also, and it's great on a safety stand point. You have to disengage the Clever Lever, but the Breakaway will disengage itself in a panic stop situation. Try and find someone where you are with one to see how it works.

I've used several "Universal Vista Cruise" units for many years and find them to be the "best bang for the buck". (about $30.00USD)

I've got to agree with the Breakaway products cruise. It is a little pricey but wife and I both bought one at Star Days last year and after running the Clever Lever from John Redmond (Clever Lever is a great item -- don't get me wrong) I just love the breakaway. It is also a VERY nice piece of machine work and looks great on the bike.

I use a "dead man's throttle" and it costs only 50 cents. I put two quarters into the throttle grip before installing the grip onto the handlebars. (I added a little bit of axle grease to make sure they didn't fall out of the grip during install).

The friction caused by the quarters keeps the throttle in position, BUT you have to consciously de-throttle. That's why it's called dead-man's:
- One...your bike will keep going if you suddenly die while riding it, and
- Two...it could kill you if you're not "with it" enough to consciously de-throttle at critical times. But this is no different than consciously disengaging other throttle locks. It does require attention though for around town driving, as you still always have to manually de-throttle.

I love it for long trips! I have a bit of carpel-tunnel and find that my fingers go numb. This alleviates that problem altogether and I didn't have to spend a bunch of bucks.

However...do this at your own risk.

Well Im cheap so what I did was took a rubber o ring cut it in two and have it attached to my throtle cable just in front of the throtle grip with the end coming under the grip, when I want cruise I simple pull it up between the grip and mount, when done simply pull it down.It provides just enough drag to hold the speed yet you can still turn the grip if needed ..total cost maybe a nickle.
