WHY DO I RIDE 1 Month ago
Back Story: I wrote this after a couple years of owning my Roadstar. This is the first Yamaha I ever owned, and it was, and is, the best bike I've ever had.
I can easily see these words in a narrative on a Yamaha commercial. I'd love to see Yamaha Corporate pick this up but have no idea how to make that happen. I suppose anyone who rides, regardless of brand, can relate to these words, but I'm wondering how much more YOU CAN because of our personal experience with these fine machines.
I also wanted to share it with you, my RSC family before the clinic is no more. Enjoy!

Why Do I Ride

There it sits patiently waiting for me. She glistens in the morning sunlight that filters into the garage. My heart already begins to race in anticipation as I slide into the saddle. I turn the key, push the magic button and the giant awakens from its slumber. Its powerful and enthusiastic rumble crackles the morning silence.

I meticulously glide along in command of it all. On top of the world, my senses are aroused to a whole new level, as we confidently roll along. The smells and sights capture my attention as if coming to life for the first time. Together we run through the paces.

Now we're cutting through the air with the greatest of ease, but the stallion is chomping at the bit to be free. So I settle deeper into the saddle, pull the throttle back and let the horses run. It's like saying let's see what you got. The beast beneath me responds effortlessly as if to say...bring it on!

While we slice through the air, the cares of this world begin to fall off. The wind pulls back the weight that's on my shoulders. Unable to hold on they lose their clutches, and now they're gone. Now this is riding. Now I'm focused. Now I'm free.

I've heard it's good for an old motor to get it out on the road and open it up. It cleans it out... the build up and deposits, that is. That's what happens to this old guy. The freedom of the road cleans my soul.

My motorcycle is my sanctuary. So why do I ride? The better question is why do I ever get off.

Boy talk about a visualization. While reading that I could picture the entire thing in my mind. Thanks for sharing that!

I *really* think you nailed it with the following line:

"While we slice through the air, the cares of this world begin to fall off. The wind pulls back the weight that's on my shoulders. Unable to hold on they lose their clutches, and now they're gone. Now this is riding. Now I'm focused. Now I'm free."

...Free indeed.

Yep, that's what it feels like.

Dammit! Now I want to go riding! Is it spring yet?

You have really captured the spirit and reason to ride. I can be having a funky day and completely put it behind me witty straddling my Roadstar and hitting the road. Sometimes, a short ride will do. Thanks for sharing.

Well said, those that do not ride will never understand the feeling of the freedom of the open road and a great bike under you.

Wozers! If Mark Twain was alive he would be taking you out for a beer then borrow your bike after reading your commentary.

You picked the right words to express the feeling. Here it.s also bad weather for a ride and it takes a while before that will change.
Unfortunately my season begins not until august. Until that time I,m backpacking with my wife in Asia for 5 months. I,m sure gonna miss my bike,s, but you don't have to pity me. Its more like a luxury problem, all about making choices.
