Fairing switch 6 Months, 1 Week ago

Can I install a switch for my fairing on the Neg. side or do I have to use a relay and use the Hot side. The fairing is protected by a 30 amp. fuse.

If you have the proper wire size for a 30 amp fuse just switch that wire with a 30amp or larger switch.

Thanks for the response. But can I install the switch on the Neg. side? If not why? A 30 amp switch is about $40.00 and I already have a switch that would work but would need the relay (relay is only $5.00) don't have much room for the relay!

Technically, you can put the switch on the ground side and it will work. I don't recommend it because you will always have power to the device. The switch should be used to shut off the power, not the ground. I consider it a safety issue. If that 30 amps found a way to ground, you would not have a way to shut it off.
As to trying to get away without a relay, that could be a bad idea. It's the size of the wires vs. the amount of current that determines if you need a relay. If the wire gauge is large enough then you won't need it. On a motorcycle, you (or someone else) would have had to run all new wiring to the fairing to support the 30 amps. If that's the case, no need for a relay.

+1 This answers your concerns. Why is a 30 amp switch $40??? I can find them all day long for a lot less.

this is just 1 example.
