Tail light 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Is the tail light on my 2007 Roady an LED? What do I need to do to run a tail light with 1157 bulb. The turns are incandescent, I've had to replace one of those, just wasn't sure about tail light.

The tail/brake assembly has multiple LED lights in it.

Will something like a replacement socket for a 1157 bulb work?

I work for one of the major players in the auto parts biz and deliver stuff like this all the time:

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, since the tail light is an LED does it have a load equalizer. Do I have to change anything to run a regular tail light with a 1157 bulb? I always see that when you change from regular to LED it requires a load equalizer. Is that just for turn signals? I don't know anything about LED's so any info would be appreciated.

If you were to dissect your tail light what you would find is a board with rows, and rows of small LEDs about the size of pencil erasures.

You won't find any sockets you're accustomed to seeing associated with normal automotive incandescent bulbs as all the LEDs are soldered to the main board.

The load equalizers are needed for flasher use when LEDs are substituted as the flasher unit itself is current sensitive. Flashing the incandescent bulbs, front and rear, and the units flashes normally. If one was to burn out the current draw through the flasher unit changes and this will cause the system to hyper flash (blink faster than normal). This is only to draw attention to the operator that there is a problem with one of the bulbs.

Since LEDs draw less current than regular bulbs,a load equalizer " tricks" the flasher unit by adding more current load to the circuit allowing it to flash at a normal rate.

I'm trying to talk myself in to leaving them blickers off. We'll see, currently in the bobbing process.
