Charging My Phone While Riding 1 Year, 10 Months ago
I use GPS quite a lot when I ride. However, the battery on my phone drains fast. There does not seem to be a solution as I've Googled it a lot. Mainly, what I'd like is something that connects to the battery on my bike that I could plug my phone into while riding. Is there anything pre made like that? I'm sure I could rig something up, but it would be nice to have a usb thing I could just plug into somewhere on my bike.

Thanks,
Jerry

Before my fairing I used to run the Kuryakyn Power Point. I then purchases a USB insert in place of the cigarette lighter (just a few bucks at any department store). Direct connect to the battery. Worked great.

If you have a battery tender hooked up to your battery already,I think I saw an adapter for usb type plug for charging.

I have a Battery Tender cable attached to my battery and then run my GPS wire under the tank and to the Tender wire.

That would work but he most likely using his data/charge cable for his phone and GPS app.

Yes. Using my iPhone cable. Would need a USB attachment. Thanks for the advice. I'll rig something up. I was hoping someone had had made a clean and easy little rig.

Found this on Amazon. This might be perfect. http://www.amazon.com/Astra-Depot-Charger-Waterproof-Motorcycle/dp/B00NEJ46V8?ie=UTF8&keywords=motorcycle%20phone%20charger&qid=1459701127&ref_=sr_1_3&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rps=1&s=automotive&sr=1-3

I don't have a fairing, so I don't have that stuff. That's why I need the usb thing. I can make it on a 3- hour round trip, but any further and my phone goes dead. Plus, I use my phone a lot on social media so it would be nice to have it charge while I ride, even if I don't need GPS.

It's gone dead on my a couple times. Fortunately, I know my way around and general sense of direction. So, it's not a huge deal. However, I like how Google maps shows traffic slow downs and alternate routes based upon where you are going. It's really handy.

I had a 12v cigarette lighter similar to Frosty's mounted on the handlebars, I have a car adapter for charging my phone or any device while I ride. I also have windshield pouches, so I often stick my lightning pak in one pouch and my phone on the mount, and I have a splitter that turns my one 12v socket into 2 so I can charge 2 phones, or the lightning pak and my phone while running. This way we got juice for the devices when we stop, and my GPS doesn't run my phone dead while we travel.

I have moved to a true 12v socket splitter since this pic was taken, I found that the plugs that had the round socket for 12v and a usb port, would run one or the other but not both at the same time.

I carry these on all my bikes, they hook up to the battery tender. I can plug the phone in while it's in the saddlebag to charge it while I'm riding.
