New K & N Fliter M range power loss 6 Months, 1 Week ago
Have a stock 1700 and installed a nice K & N airbox. The bike gets sucked out at midrange performance. Taking off, ok. On the highway from 50 then flooring, it sounds like it's starving for gas. Once the engine is spooled up, it is ok. Can I adjust the PMS and fix the problem or is rejetting required? I have very little time to wrench, so if push comes to shove, I'll go back to the stock air box.
This winter will install an HSR when riding season is over. Really hoping it's a simple adjustment as riding season short in Canada.
My gut thinks the bike is running lean, but carbs are not my strong point. I am more of a bling bolter.

Thanks for any advice.

Seems like you can adjust the PMS to run richer(which should be in) to compensate for the larger volume of air incoming. Good luck. Some expert will be along soon.

From what I gather the pms is located under the carb and I have to remove a brass plug. Apparently, 3.5 turns ccw. More than 4 turns requires rejetting from what I have read. Yesterday the bike ran better after it got hot. It definitely runs better with the OEM airbox, but me likes the K & N. better.

Still got the stock exhaust on it? If yes you shouldn't need to do anything. If no then you need to re-jet

Hi Tug. The exhaust is Road House Dooleys with the baffles intact. AIS removed also.
I must have been brain dead last night. I should drop the brass plug, turn the PMS out 3.5 or 4 then see what is what. I guess one gets use to relying on the wisdom of others.
Carbs are not my forte. When I was 14 I use to rebuild car engines. Rebuilt a 63 Ford Cortina body and engine. Bought it for $50.00, sold it for $350.00. Now I get anxiety over my bike not performing well. Man... how things change. My balls must be shrinking.

Rejet! Messing with the PMS is futile.

Yep

Just need to change the needle, pilot, and main jet.

Best setup for a 1700 seems to be #40 pilot, 172.5 main with the Baron adjustable needle. Clip on the 4th-5th groove from the top (blunt end). Pilot mixture screw about 2 1/4 turns out from a light seat (screwed all the way in).
