My bike does not have bags on it yet, so removing the fender is easy. I did that and lifted from the top.

I always removed my rear fender also. Bags and everything stayed attatched. Just the 3 bolts that everyone else has mentioned

Duh! Remove the brake caliper, pull the axle and out comes the wheel. Why take the fender off?? I can't count the times I have changed mine and my sons rear tire.

I like to see everything. I've done it both ways, but for the little extra effort to take off the seat, and remove the fender and bag mounts... I do it because I find I can look at everything, and that it strikes me as easier when I'm going for the belt tension and alignment work while reinstalling. It's not that big a deal, but I love how they engineered the simplicity of teardown and reinstallation.

Even with bags it's not that hard. Unbolt the front of the bag mounts, unplug the tail light harness under the seat, unbolt two bolts under seat, then take the fender hinge bolt out and remove the entire fender/bag assembly. Remove the rear brake caliper, then you just loosen up the belt tensioners, and then remove axle and pull wheel off.
