On a side note, Ive never understood the lay it down theory. If you have time and space to lay it down you have time to do something else. Wouldnt that time and space be better spend hard on the brakes?

Also I think duck and brake hard for eminant colision.

Agree wholeheartedly. Deliberately crashing is surrendering control. Stay on your wheels and fight to keep the control you have. Once you are sliding down the road, your momentum is in control. I've slid 90 feet down the road and all you can do is try to get your feet pointed into the slide at best. Lifting a leg, you won't have time for that. You're likely going to take a mirror/handlebar to the inner thigh, abdomen, or rib cage. Been there, done that in 2 of 3 get-offs. Eating the mirror off the side of a pickup with your shoulder is better than the risk of internal injury from a bar jab in my experience. A nasty deep bruise on the inner thigh takes a good long while (about 3 weeks) to work out. 4 days, and the mirror shoulder was good to go. This is yet one more reason I wear a full face helmet design. You can't control everything, but control all you can.

Absolutely correct! Keep the bike on its tires as long as possible, braking hard and tucking close to the tank. Seen guys survive hitting bigger things than a deer in Alaska this way.

Let's add a passenger into the mix. No way I could live with myself if I ducked to avoid the pointy parts and she took the full force of it. Better to both go out? Sounds no-win to me.

I concur with keep upright and in control as long as possible.

another tip from living where deer are as thick as fleas.. if you see one ANYWHERE within a remote possibility of hitting it, get on your horn. Especially at night. the drone of your engine does not spook em ( farmers can drive right up to them on tractors because of the engine sound for some reason) and they will actually run AT your headlight. BUT your horn will spook em to turn away and they can react WAY WAY faster than you can....

With the horn I have had better success with random blasts than just laying down on it.
