I test rode the deluxe this last summer, and toby's stryker is built around the same power plant as the v-star 1300. Choosing between a 2013 R* Silverado, and a 2014 V-star 1300 deluxe though, having ridden both of them before deciding, I chose the roadstar. You have to keep it reved up to find the tourqe, but it is there and 5th is more of an overdrive than 5th on the R*.
