How to remove FI fuel tank? 4 Years, 3 Months ago

Removing the bolt, gauges and overflow line is easy. But what's the easiest way to remove the fuel and electrical lines to the fuel pump so the tank can be lifted off?

You have 2 electrical connections that need to be unplugged. 1 at the rear of the tank, I think it's a green connector. The other connector is behind the chrome cover on the left side of the motor. One fuel line is just held on with a hose clamp, easy to get off. The other fuel line has one of those quick connectors on it. Kinda hard to explain but part of the connector slides up and then push in on the blue button and pull the line off.

The only thing from the fuel pump that needs to be removed is the fuel line at the petcock.

And again, we have people who have never taken the tank off a fuel injected R* giving wrong advice. This is not your old carbed version.

Correct. There is no petcock on a fuel injected R*. So is it correct to say that no significant amount of gas will flow out of the tank because the fuel pump is not running?

Take off chrome cover for instrument panel. There is vent hose on right side front of tank. Undo electrical connection for fuel pump. Then there are two lines to undo for fuel pump. One being a blue quick disconnect and the other a hose just clamped on. Take off seat. Undo bolt on rear of tank. Pull tank backwards off rubber nubs in the front. Best to do with tank near empty. I did it on a full tank and it was heavy and awkward.

You will get a little from the hose that was clamped on. I used a large Allen wrench to plug it. The quick disconnect line will not leak.
