Nicky Hayden is in a coma. 9 Months, 1 Week ago

2001 AMA Supersport champ, 2002 AMA Superbike champ, 2006 MotoGP champ, dirt track national winner and all around class act racer Nicky Hayden was hit by a car in Italy yesterday while riding his bicycle on public roads with a group for conditioning. He suffered severe head trauma and is in a medically induced coma after surgery to repair his skull. I've watched this guy and his brothers race for 20 years. He's America's most recent world champion and currently races for Ten Kate Honda in World Superbike. Most of you have no clue, I know, but thought some of you might want to know. Details are sketchy, and I'm praying for the young man. He's only 36, and has been racing motorcycles in multiple disciplines since he was 3.

The Kentucky Kid, he's one tough sumbitch, and I have to believe he will pull through this just fine. By far the most talented of the Hayden Brothers, Nicky has represented the USA abroad for many years now. And even though his 2006 Moto GP championship may have been somewhat of a gift, still, in the end, he was the man on top when it was all said and done, and no one can take that away from him. It's been painful watching him struggle in WSB with an inferior team when he deserves so much more. Now he faces the most difficult challenge of his life. Hang in there Nicky.
