It says no such bike. One dealer offered to call Yamaha and check it out and he called me back and said that Yamaha records don't go back as far as my 2002 and that the only way they could do anything is to set up a service appt. during which they would use small mirrors to check inside the trans to see if anything had been changed and if not then they would cover the whole thing. Sounds silly to me but then who am I? lol Has anyone else ever been told this? Thanks You -definitely- want to get it checked out. The bike will run perfectly until the circlip breaks, at which point it will lock up your gearbox and rear tyre. Depending on your current riding situation that could lead to a nasty accident. It may not happen for a million miles. It may happen tomorrow. When they did my bike there was no evidence of a developing problem, but it had only done 10,000 miles. Very weird, they (my local dealer) had no problems verifying my 99 VIN, and that was just 3 months ago. Fully covered recall done. Haven't heard from them yet except when they called and said the carb was leaking from the seals and needed to be rebuilt. I told them no, but then started thinking about it and decided that if I get it back and have problems they will just say, "oh we told you that the carb needed rebuilding" so I called back and said go ahead.
