ROUGH RUNNING 4 Weeks, 1 Day ago
Looking for advice with a problem that's cropped up, the bike has been stood over the winter and during that time I have removed the AIS, and relocated the fuel pump and choke cable, started it up today and its running very rough, it is smoking cuts out when you give it revs on or off choke and gets hot, its so bad I can not ride it as it cuts out under revs. Bike was running sweet before I tampered with it. HELP.

Have you plugged off the outlet on the carb manifold when you removed the AIS?

Also, drain all the old fuel and add Seafoam per instructions to the new fuel. Then ride it hard.

While I agree with checking the manifold for leaks...

I would also check the following.

Since you did quite a bit with the fuel pump and enricher...
a) disconnect the fuel inlet at the carb and stick in a cup, jar, whatever
b) turn key on
c) aside from the clicking of the pump, you should see quite a bit of fuel flow. If you dont, start working back up the line till you do.
d) if fuel flow OK. reconnect fuel line and open carb drain line, repeat test.
e) try items below and if they are OK, I would pull the carb and clean it just to be sure it didn't gum up.

I would then check the plug seals on the cylinders to make sure the seals you put in are correct.

check that the enricher is properly connected to the carb.

Thanks for all the advice, problem is solved. It was none of the sugested checks, it turned out to be my son who had added 2 stroke oil to my jerry can to use for his striker! Drain my tank and refilled and revved the nuts off it and now it's clear and running sweet. Once again many thanks.

That must not have been a 50:1 mix! My bikes will run on 50:1 with no problems, no smoke.

Re:ROUGH RUNNING 4 Weeks ago
Glad to hear it was a simple fix...

On a related note, since the fuel gauge on my old R* was busted, after pushing the damn thing one too many times I started carrying some emergency gas in an old Seafoam can to get me to a gas station. Well one time it happened, I broke out my spare can and poured it into the tank, the bike came back to life and I headed toward the gas station... As I got about a half block from the station, the bike began sputtering and coughing, then smoke began to bellow out the pipes... It didn't want to idle but would keep going if I'd rev the motor then close off the throttle, rev, close, repeat. It must have looked pretty ridiculous as I pulled up to the pump. That's when I realized I'd grabbed the wrong can and poured *straight* Seafoam in my tank! I was amazed it actually ran like that... Sure it may have been a 9:1 mixture and required coaxing, but it ran [sort of] on pretty much straight Seafoam... Talk about "shock treatment".
