OK, so pulled this image off the net. I took a thumb screw like this in 5/16-18 thread (had some laying around) and 2ea. 5/16-18 nuts. Put the nuts on and jammed tightened them together toward the outer edge of the threads. Then proceeded to massage the thumb portion on the bench grinder to slightly thin and re-profile the top edge to better fit the slot of the filler cap. Result is you can put a 1/2 inch socket on a ratchet and get good pressure pushing and good torque loosening up the cap at the same time.
Glad you got yours loosened up.

Good idea Rod, but in a standard thread? Respect the Metric bike, man. They do sell spade head thumbscrews in Metric sizes too, you know
Didn't you say you had a kid in Oklahoma? You riding up to visit this summer? I have been looking for an excuse to sneak south across the border, a meet up could be entertaining?!

Well, we are a bunch of cheap bastards with our Roadies like i said, just had some in SAE lying around so used what was available. Who knows, the idea might take off and I can make a bunch in metric, have them chromed, then go broke trying to sell them at just under cost
Dont hold your breath, if work keeps staying as busy as it is, I MIGHT make it out for the Ozark M&G coming up, since I didnt get to go to Celina this year would still like to get a little face time with the kids and grandkids if possible, we'll see.

Ride will be fine. Got everything to fix it but paint so far. She will be 2 different colors, but there is a whole winter to fix that.

My man Rod! Great McGiver tool! Love it!
But it is a bit disrespectful when SAE
and 1/2" is mentioned....lol
However I have to defer to the availability of
the fasteners in the aforementioned albeit blasphemous
thread pitch
