I think you guys cursed me, all this talk about manifolds and sure enough, mine started leaking. I went ahead and purchased a ported one and had it installed... Boy is there ever a difference! Runs like a new bike, idle's great, and pulls like it's going out of style.

out of all the mods i have done so far, porting the intake was by far the best one..my bike pulls like a freight train.. if you surface the flanges the way Curt explains it you should have no trouble with them sealing..i used the same o-rings after i cleaned them with mild dish soap.. i just tighten the bolts slowly and cross-tighten so the flanges sit flat.. a little at a time..

Thanks for the education, Gram!
And thanks to everyone else who chimed in with their experiences. I'll be changing mine in the next few days.

Just looking for opinion here. My first mods are being done to my 05' R* with 1 mile under 10K. I am having the 31 tooth pulley and the ported barons manifold put on plus replacing the primary seal(it's leaking and not due to the "normal" issues.) The rest of the bike is stock. My question is, is the manifold a good idea right now before exhaust and air kit is installed? Those two things have to wait. $$ is tight. Oh and AIS block off is being installed. Bike seems to be choking/held back during operation and start up. DrR* is looking at for me right now.

No point in doing the manifold now if you have stock air box and pipes.

Hi Curt!,
Well I did it anyways. Works fine and makes a huge difference. Runs much smoother.
I am picking up a set of longshots today and carb kit is on order.
Do you have any suggestions on a tach under $100?

All tach are made by the same company in China, the only difference is some vendor have a special face plate put on them with the vendors name. They charge more for them because they have their name on them. I have used these (yi tin) brand and they work fine. I see Baron has gone up on their price from $59 to $69. You can make your own mounting bracket out of sheet SS for it just the way it is.
