So I am gonna attempt to do this wiring diagram on here, let me know if anything is unclear and I will edit and re post.

The first thing you will do is uninstall the left roadstar switch from the bike. After you have it off the bike, cut the blue and white plugs off of the bottom of the roadstar switch leaving enough wire on the bottom of each plug to splice in your new wires from the vaquero switch. I left about 6 inches of wire at the bottom of each plug just to make sure I had enough wire.

Roadstar ------- Vaquero

Blue Plug
Dark Green ---------- Grey
Green --------------- Red/Yellow
Brown --------------- Green
Yellow -------------- Red/Black

Blue/Yell------Black/Yell (both wires on blue plug, bypasses neutral safety switch) You can discard the 2 black and 2 blue wires on the Vaquero Switch. If you don't want to bypass the neutral safety switch, you must take the plug & wires that go into the clutch handle off of the roadstar switch & install the plug & wires on the vaquero switch.

Roadstar ------- Vaquero

White Plug
Brown/White --------- Orange
Yellow/Red ---------- Yellow/Orange
Pink ---------------- Brown/Black
Red/Yellow ---------- Blue/Yellow
Black --------------- Black/Yellow

All of the wires on the blue and white plug that you took off of the roadstar switch should be connected by this point. You will have 6 wires left coming from the vaquero switch, 3 light green and 3 brown wires. These wires are from the audio controls. You will need to splice in the resistors supplied to you from the Pac-Audio SWI-RC kit.

Brown/Blue --- Chassis Ground
Brown/Green --- 560 ohm resistor --- Chassis Ground
Brown/Yellow --- 3900 ohm resistor --- Chassis Ground

Light Green/Black ---- 47 ohm resistor ---- white wire on SWI-RC
Light Green --- 150 ohm resistor --- white wire on SWI-RC
Light Green/Red --- 1000 ohm resistor --- white wire on SWI-RC

There is a WHITE and a white/black wire on the SWI-RC module. Make sure the 3 resistors connected to the 3 light green wires are all going to the WHITE wire and not the white/black wire.

Last thing to do is plug the SWI-RC into the back of the radio using the port for the wired remote, connect the red power and black ground from the SWI-RC, turn the numbered dial to the number that coincides to the type of radio you have, and follow the instructions provided to MANUALLY PROGRAM the SWI-RC. The program version should be version 3.

This definitely sounds more complicated than it really is. Once I had the wiring diagram down pat, it took me about an hour or so to do all of the wiring and programming once you have the fairing apart.

I hope this helps anyone who is looking for audio controls for their bike. Even if you have another type of momentary switch other than the vaquero/voyager switch, you can call pac audio and they can set you up with a diagram that will allow this to work. Good luck and if anyone else attempts this with the vaquero switch or any other type of momentary switch let us know your results.

Grant

Hey Grant, I just picked up the Vaquero control for my bike. Don't be surprised if I contact you for help on this thing. Also do you have a link or specific model number for the PAC adapter? Or better yet, how bout I just send you my control and some cash and just let you wire it up got me ;)

lol No problem man. Give me a call anytime, you can do it man its really not that bad at all! the unit you want is the Pac-Audio SWI-RC. Let me know how you do!

Resurrecting this old thread....

Looking for some help with wiring Jensen JHDHBC handlebar controls to my Rockford Fosgate head unit via a PAC Audio SWI-RC interface.

I am a bit confused as which wires on the SWI-RC are to be connected to the 8 wires from the Jensen audio controls.

Anyone have experience with these units ?

Thats gonna be much easier than this setup and quite frankly much more practical then changing the whole left hand switch. When i did this switch the JHDHBC was not out yet. I actually later on bought one myself because i changed my radio to the Jensen marine radio and it plugged right in so I went back to a regular left control.

Call the guys at Pac Audio Tech support and they will show you how to hook it up and give you the right resisters. Basically PIN 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 coming from the Jensen will all be independently connected to a different resister (the guys at PAC audio will tell you which ones to use) and then all of those resisters together will be connected to the SWI-RC, probably the white wire but you need to ask them that. Pin 4 & 8 from the Jensen will be connected to a chasis ground. Here is a the manual from the Jensen that will explain the functions of the Jensen. http://www.jensenheavyduty.com/downloads/dl/file/id/882/jhdhbc_owners_manual_-_english.pdf

Thanks Grant,
That's how I hooked it up. However I can't program any buttons. When I go into programming mode and press the button to be mapped the LED goes out and never comes back on.
I did arbitrarily use resistors from the pack as I thought impedance doesn't matter as long as all are different.

Good deal, so it actually works now right? lol

This is a great idea for anyone using a radio from pretty much any brand and any bike that doesn't have the hand controls built in. The Jensen JHDHBC handle bar controller is really a great unit and very handy to have on the bike.

For the guys that think we are crazy going through all this work for hand controls its definitely worth it for sure. Just ask any harley touring owner, or goldwing owner, or any other brand with a dedicated radio and handlebar setup. Having to ability to just lower the volume when you get to a stoplight without taking your hands off of the bars is really beneficial especially riding around in the city where you need both hands on the bars and paying attention to whats going on around you.

Re:Finally an answer to handlebar audio controls!!! 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Now that I got it all working I figured I'll post what I used and how I did this.

Jensen Universal Handlebar controls $49.95
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M9ME1QG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

PAC-AUDIO Steering Wheel Control Interface $27.90
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HKBY8G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Jensen Handlebar Control Mirror Mount $24.95
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M9MEAN0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This setup is connected to my Rockford Fosgate PMX-5 which has a 3.5mm Steering Wheel Interface connector. (Most newer radios have them)

Install was fairly simple:

Jensen remote has 6 wires. 2 of them are common ( one for upper row and one for lower row of buttons)

2 common wires go to ground
The other 4 wires each get a resistor which come with the SWI-RC.
Connect one end of the resistor to each of the 4 remaining wires. (Doesn't matter which ones you use as long as they are all different)
Connect the other ends of the resistors to the white wire of the SWI-RC (all 4 ends together)
Red wire from SWI-RC to switched 12 Volt
Black wire from SWI-RC to ground

That's it.
Now you just have to program your module. There is a rotary switch were you select the Radio type. Even though the manual said 7 for my Rockford Fosgate, I had to set it to 3 for Clarion.
Program vehicle type to 8
Map buttons as per the instructions.

Done.
