Running UBER rich 4 Months ago
|

I have come across an issue. I installed V&H LongShots and a K&N BAK, and rejected with a dynojet 195 main jet. Instructions called for needle clip on 4th position, and 3-1/2 turns out on PMS screw. When I started the bike it poured black smoke. Give it gas and it would die immediately. So I let it warm up and rode it, and the bike just felt tired the whole time. No pep! So I changed the needle clip to the 3rd position and changed the PMS screw to 2.5. Bike runs happier, but she's still real boggy when accelerating from cruising up until around 2,000 RPM, then its like the bike wakes up. Do I rejet again, and tell dyno that their numbers are off, or do I keep adjusting needle and PMS?

Throw the Dynojet jets in the garbage. Keep the adjustable needle and install a 167.5 Mikuni main jet,37.5 Mikuni pilot jet, PMS 2 1/2 turns out and the needle clip in the 4th groove. Make sure you didn't bump the float and change the float level when you did it the first time. You will be happy with this jetting recommendation.

The only slight change I would recommend would be a 170.0 Mikuni main because of where you are stationed in Yuma, due to the extreme dryness and summertime heat. That will make you just slightly rich, but on those HOT 120° summer days it is insurance against being too lean in those conditions. Otherwise I dont mess with what Dave says

So, my whole reason for upgrading what I did for. Stock is to give the bike a good performance boost as far as how hard she pulls when I open up the throttle. Will these jets give that to the bike?

I'm having the black smoke issue with my 1700 too. I have a K&N bak and aftermarket pipes ( not sure what brand). Will your suggestion work for me too?
If so,you say 37.5 pilot jet. I looked on eBay and found a "Genuine Mikuni VM TM TMX Carburetor Carb Size 37.5 Pilot Jet VM22/210/37.5" and a " Genuine Mikuni OEM Non-Bleed Carburetor Size 37.5 Pilot Jet N151.067/37.5".
Which one am I looking for?

N224.103.37 for a 1600. N224.103.40 for a 1700. 167.5 main for a 1600 with stick ignition box, 170 if you have a Dyna or a 1700 box on your 1600. 172.5 main for a 1700. I believe N100.604 is the part number of the large round main jets with your size at the end.

I am not sure if you are really mis-jetted or not. Take your carb off and pull vacuum on the fuel inlet. Make sre that the fuel shut-off valve is working correctly.
