Aux lights 2 Weeks, 5 Days ago
My aux lights quite working no power to the switch. Does anyone know where I can see a wiring diagram of the lights. Took the headlight off couldn’t tell which wires power the aux lights. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

One of our members has some of this online. Check here and see if it has what you're after. https://sites.google.com/site/tykesplace/yamaha-roadstar/wiring-diagrams

I believe the wiring depends on if you have factory or aftermarket aux lamps.

The aftermarket lamps tend to have a plastic rocker switch, located at the base of one of the lamps on the support cross bar; where as the factory lamps have a small metal toggle switch on the back of one of the aux light housings.

Ideally, if you look at the base of the individual lamps, you should see a wire coming from the housing. Note the color and trace it back to the headlight bucket.

Inside the headlight bucket, the main harness is wrapped in a loose plastic sheath. The aux light wire should be separate from the main harness and, based on the color of the one coming from under the individual lamp, be easily discernible.

The aftermarket lamps will likely have an inline universal splice inside the headlight bucket, tapping into the low beam circuit, making it easier to spot; and I believe the factory lamps have their own wire, with an inline male/female connector, inside a clear plastic waterproof sheath.

I also believe each aux lamp, whether factory or aftermarket, have a ground wire connected to the aux lamp housing using a rivet. Those rivets often work lose over time from all the vibration and tend to be a common point of failure. Be sure to check them.

If all else fails, using a 12v circuit tester lamp, work your way back from the individual aux lamp to their power source inside the bucket and go from there.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck.

The bike has to be running to have power to the switch. If it don't have power when running a quick check for a blown fuse will likely result in a fix for the issue.

Go back to Tykes site and look at the misc. page. The wiring instructions for the lamps are there in PDF form. I sent them to him a couple years back so folks would have access. When the lights come on is determined by where the power is tapped in. If your bike is newer and has the accessory wire already installed, they won’t come on til the bike is running.

The lights are factory passing lights came pre installed. Will work when key is turned on just like the headlight doesn’t need to be running. Tried to trace them back have to look again whole lot of wires in their thanks. it’s a 2005

So when did they change how the lights operate? On my '08 the lamps don't come on with the key until the engine is running.

My 07 is the same. I thought all factory installed lights were wired the same.
