Avon Cobras? 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Anyone running these on their RS?

I am thinking about switching to Avon Cobras. It's got Dunlops on it now. May get the rest of the season on them, maybe.

I recently put a set of the Cobras on my 2008 Yamaha Royal Star Venture that had Metzler 888's on it and the change has been dramatic to say the least. It's like I am running on rails through corners. I have scraped the foot boards more than once and the bike just keeps tracking through the corners. I have never been as impressed as I have been with these tires. The guys on the Venture sites swear by them.

Oh goody another tire thread!!!

I have a set of Cobras that I put on last year. Best ones I have ever had. Dunlop Metzler nothing compares to Cobras. My 2 cents.

I knew it! Just knew it!

Nothing is appreciated more on any bike forum than another tire tire thread.

Next up.... No.....not another oil thread.

Are those Cobras on your signature pic? In whitewalls?

Edit: Just googled. Damn! Would have put those on my RSV if I had known.

I've got them on my XCT. I've been pleased enough that I received my new rear replacement this week. Got about 7,500 on this one and think I should get 10-11K before I change it out. Probably get more if I didn't push it so hard when I get out on some of our better curvy roads around the county. Pushing 800+ pounds can put a pretty good strain on any tires. Wet traction has been very solid too.

The wet traction thing is good to know. I haven't run into that with my RSV yet but I was wondering how good it would be as the center of the tire looks more like a slick than a tire that would disperse water well. But then again, in a straight line that's not a problem. Guess I should pay more attention to the grooves of the tiresides as that's where it matters in dispersing water when cornering.

Goes to show what I know.

I'm not one to push the envelope in the wet. I ride pretty conservatively when it's wet, but they have felt very secure compared to some others I've had in the past. I think JD said something about never pushing more than 80% when it's wet out.

Maybe he'll correct me if I got that off a little

On my second set of Cobra wide white walls. Great tires. Lasted and wore well.

After running nothing but Metzlers for years and then having all the problems that plagued them without any help for known problems my Metzler I went to Avon WW and I have been completely satisfied. They out handle wet or dry. I suggest 2# more in the rear if you tend to ride two up and you should get better mileage as well without any sacrifice in handling. I was as loyal a customer for Metzler but after the way I was treated I am happy to have stumbled across Avon and happily they are an even better option.

I just put them on my Triumph. Haven't logged a lot of miles yet, but they seem to be handling well.
