anybody have yamaha royal star experience? 3 Years, 10 Months ago
i posted this on a royal star forum, but since i know there is a wealth of motorcycle knowledge here, thought i would get any input available.

i have no experience with royal star tours, or ventures. i love my roadstar, wouldn’t think of gettin rid of it. my wife rides a vstar 650, but likes riding double with me. the road star can handle riding double ok , but i know the royal stars are great 2 up cruisers. there is a 1999 royal star tour classic for sale couple hours away from me, with 24k on the clock. would love to add something like it to my garage if it worked out in the near future, but we can't afford a newer model for sure. curious if there are any known issues with a bike from that year, or a royal star tour in general.

Great bike lots of power! Rode a friend of mines and it was very comfortable very well balanced. The only known problems are the clutch was slipping a bit (could have been him not maintaining well) and he has put 3 fuel pumps in it but he buys used ones. I would buy one if I had the cash.

You would be giving up a lot of cc's compared to your Road Star the torque won't be there either. I don't see how it would be betteer 2-up than what you got.

The '99 would be the previous generation style. It actually looks more like a Road Star than the later Tour Deluxe. It's a good bike but has smaller carbs, lower compression ratio (iirc) and less HP than the later models. Just like our Roadies, it's an almost unbreakable engine/tranny. Some of the later Royals had a (really bad) clutch basket whine but I don't remember hearing a lot of complaints on the Tour Classics.
Good and inexpensive bikes. And will probably outrun all but a few Roadies.

The MM editions are good looking bikes with that pearl white paint and tan seats.

My good friend has a 2005 Tour Deluxe. He loves it. Put 2,800 miles on with him last summer without incident. It’s a five speed like ours but it’s a true overdrive so you are running much lower RPM’s at higher speed. A great feature for long distance cruising. The only negative he has with it is the transmissions are known for making a lot of noise. From what I can tell the gears are cut differently so they make a lot of racket. But louder pipes can fix that. I helped him with a road king muffler conversion which gave it a little more rumble, and it was really cheap to do.

Yes they are . He said when he ordered the corbin seat that he had called and found just enough of the tan material they used on stock to make the corbin .

I owned a Venture before I got my R*. The only reason I got rid of it was because my wife would not ride and it was made for two-up riding. It has a smaller CC engine (1300) but more HP(98). It is a V-4, not a V-twin, and love high RPM's. The motor is bullit proof and screams down the highway. It has more room in the bags and truck than the H-D models and will run with them all day long. It's a little top heavy in close quarters but once you get use to it you'll love it. Don't waist money on a newer model. They are basically the same bike with very few changes since 1999. If you can find a '99-'00 that has been taken care of you can same some $$$. Mine was a '99 with 38000 miles. I sold it with a pull-behind trailor for $6000, three years ago.

If I'm not mistaken, the Tour Deluxe is the same bike as the Venture without the tour park. Both are good bikes.
